Civ is pretty dull even the first go-round, let alone the second when you realize you really saw everything the game has to offer the first time and that was it, but it's still miles better than GalCiv

civ 2 was the best civ game, because it was in the heady days of modding when all you needed was a basic knowledge of the scripting language within the game (that they included in the freaking manual for the second-to-last version) and you could create an arcade version of the battle of the atlantic, or play through settling mars, or world war: 1979, or the post-apocalyptic one with dinosaurs, terminators, and bikers

I've never played vanilla Civ 5 but it seems kind of empty. I feel kind of ashamed to admit that I play on chieftan but how else am I going to get all the wonders? Too bad playing that low ensures that you'll automatically get a culture victory by doing nothing.

Yeah, it's really fun. I just wished the AI for the combat was a bit smarter. It's almost unnecessary to get any of the combat perks since the AI isn't very smart.

Civ 5 is shittier in every single way to Civ 4: BTS except for hexes. Port hexes to BTS and it'd be a far better game. gently caress universal happiness, gently caress no-multiplayer animation (ever fight an MP war in the modern age with units teleporting for screens?), gently caress punishing the player for building roads and no longer requiring them for trade, gently caress the lovely AI (Does the game still unescorted generals out to try to stop your armies?), gently caress the way they did tech trading, gently caress the fact they ripped out so many features... Civ 5 is massively overrated by people who both don't remember Civ 4:BTS well and are easily impressed by pretty graphics. Again the hex thing is neat, and I really like that, but the computer can't use it for poo poo and multiplayer blows, so it's moot even as a straight up war game. Oh yeah, gently caress it's dumb tech tree, too. If anyone here played Civ V and missed Civ IV, go buy it on a Steam sale sometime and you will never go back. Graphically it's not even that bad and it's not a dumbed down baby's first Civ game. gorki posted:I heard Civ 4 and Civ 5 weren't playable for months after release Vanilla Civ 4 was a million times better than Vanilla Civ 5 despite the bugs. BTS is the best version of Civ out there though. I should note the things I'm complaining about aren't even nit picks.. the roads thing is inverse logic where roads = cost money, while all previous games were roads = make money.. yeah roads have maintenance costs but ultimately enhance trade.. blocking trade routes was a huge part of the past games, and also, as your empire gets more and more roads and little villages pop up it starts to look like a nation.. You can be in year 2050 in Civ 5 and you still look like you're managing a tiny rear end wasteland state. It sucks and removes so much strategy. Where as global happiness has the effect of making your empire crippling depressed for winning wars unless you murder every city you can.. previously with it being regional you could have problem cities and have to deal with them, but your whole empire wouldn't go "What, you took territory and didn't kill everyone? We loving hate life now." I hate Civ V more every time I think about it. Blazing Ownager fucked around with this message at 05:54 on Sep 3, 2014 |
