So, what kind of show was Guilty Crown?

Scifi political thriller constructed in the most anime way possible, which resulted in it being not worth anyone's time.

I sometimes wonder if the general quality of anime has been in constant decline these days...

Come on, now. Are we gonna act like the late 00's never happened? Because anime over the past few years has actually been trending back up in quality with a lot of really good shows being released, regardless of the fact that a show as god-awful as Cross Ange exists.

Not only did I dig up quotes earlier from people talking about how anime was in a decline in the early 90s, but searching around past discussion online shows that people say that the present is always the worst for things. Nothing ever changes!

I somewhat agree with this, but the late 00's really were an awful time for TV anime and the past few years have been a much-needed improvement over that period.

Not sure about the early 90's, though, but that was right before the TV anime boom that kicked off around 95, so there may have been a bit of a dead zone there for a while.

If you've already checked out [and passed on] shows like the new seasons Chaika and Psycho Pass, Garo, Rage of Bahamut, Parasyte, Shirobako, and the new Gundam, then I really can't imagine what you're hoping to see in any given anime season.

Hellsing TV was botched. It focused way too much on Seras before remembering "oh poo poo we still have like half the loving manga left!" I love its OP to loving bits, but it was a mediocre show and a poo poo adaptation. Oh well, Gonzo clause and so on.

Hellsing TV had already finished airing months before volume 5 [of an eventual 10] of the manga was released, so there wasn't really much Gonzo could do at that point other than throw together some half-hearted ending.

Is anybody else watching Denki Gai? Because, man, there's something subtly repellent about the whole thing, which is bizarre and unsettling for a lighthearted comedy slice-of-life show.

I could definitely go for this. But MangaUK style dubbing really only works with a certainly style of anime that, unfortunately, is no longer in vogue.

e: "The story follows Maria, the most powerful witch who lives during the Hundred Years' War in France. She despises war, so she obstructs battles with her strong magical powers. Her meddling with her succubus Artemis and incubus Priapos has caught the attention of the heavens, and so the Archangel Michael issues an edict. When Maria loses her virginity, she will also lose her magical powers. A beautiful angel named Ezekiel is supposed to watch Maria and make sure the witch does not use magic in front of people, but Maria continues to use magic anyways."

This is such a blatantly terrible idea. A shame, because I liked the first bit of the premise.

That aspect is played for a laugh a few times, but it's definitely not a primary focus of the story or anything. It's mostly about angels being jerks and Maria trying to help the common people by using sex demons to seduce and manipulate high-ranking people.

Studio Khara is Anno's studio, isn't it? He's pretty outspoken with his thoughts on otaku culture. It does seem like a condemnation of (or at least a jab at) that lovely lifestyle, though if it really is I doubt it's going to resonate with its target audience. Maybe I'm reading too much into it and it really is just cool anime tits set to great music, but it does tell a story and it doesn't have a happy end.

Hideaki Anno is generally believed to actively hate his audience, so that's probably not an incorrect reading of this short.

To be clear, this is a thing that exists within the Sidonia series and is something that the characters watch occasionally. Not really sure how that's going to work, but it's definitely not a full series or anything like that.

Apparently, there's an anime called Triangle Heart and it's pornography. Later, another show called Triangle Heart was made and it was a sequel of some sort, but all the characters are different and it's not pornography. Then, some characters from Not-Porn Triangle Heart got a spinoff called Maho Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha. Hope that helps.

Umetsu is a talented animator/director [less so as a writer] who made porn because that was the only way he could get the funding he needed to do an original work. And aside from Mezzo Forte and Kite [which do have non-porn versions on DVD and streaming], the rest of his stuff is not porn.
