I've read a lot of Light Novels in Japanese; most of them are utter dogshit, but unfortunately, I have a really bad case of the "Gotta finish it!"(if there's a legit name for this, it escapes me) disease. Fortunately, a lot of the LN's I've read were so lovely, they actually started curing me from this stupid habit little by little.

The best / least crappy LN series I've read and could be considered finished were:

• Spice and Wolf
  
• Boogiepop
  
• Haruhi Suzumiya
  
• Full Metal Panic!
  
• The Twelve Motherfucking Kingdoms (which released its last volume last year)
  
• Denpa Teki na Kanojo
  
• Slayers
  
• Saiunkoku Monogatari
  

I've read some other novels that could be considered good, but I'm unsure if they're considered bona-fide Novels or LN's (Shiki, LOGH, the Sekai/of the Stars series are the ones that pop-up to mind right now).

The three series I've sincerely disliked the most were:

• Mahouka: gently caress this lovely novel, gently caress this lovely author and the jerkface who recommended me this after he got me the Gundam Unicorn novels was probably trolling me.
  
• Kyoukai Senjo no Horizon: This guy is even more in love with his own rectum than NisioisiN is with words. How on earth has this guy not met an editor who has said to him "Please stop. It's not a light novel if it's over a thousand loving pages long, you feckless dumbass!" at this point?
  
• Infinite Stratos: This series pisses me off because it had a good idea in the first volume regarding how, thanks to the I.S. technology being similar to the Kobu in Sakura Wars (that it can only be used by women until a Special Snowflake male comes around), there was a gender power-shift and now men were seen as the "weak gender". Then it decided to drop any pretense of this and be about the loving harem.
  

And my question is: Why are most Japanese young adult literature / LN writers so hell-bent about setting up a harem? I suppose it's about the "Oh, look I'm a chick magnet" type of escapism / fantasy, but they almost always portray the main character as someone who either can barely look after himself or, you know, an aggressively dull flesh brick with the personality to match.

e: vvvvv I guess at the end of the day, I want a more down-to-earth version of School Days to happen to a harem protagonist. vvvvv

Cross Ange or no, this is still pretty much the best goddamn season in possibly a decade or more. Even if a solid half of these shows spectacularly poo poo the bed, this is still a really good season. How do you even figure it's been in constant decline?

Second episode of Parasyte was pretty good, and left us with some interesting potential-plot tidbits to chew on. The music is still entirely out of place except when dubstep is playing behind a tense/action sequence.

e: Also, Chaika remains Chaika, but now they've revealed the season 2 mcguffin so plot's finally happening.
