i was homeschooled until 6th grade and pretty much did 2-3 hours of school a day max up to that point. everyone was so dumb that i didn't have to put any effort into school again until college. might have helped that my mother was an actual teacher.

But I also didn't go through the public education system like some of you plebs. And if you thought that post was serious, as you seem to have, your mom must not have taught you sarcasm. she definitely taught you intolerance though. so that's cool, i guess.

nomadologique posted:so you confess we have unprecedented power over the environment but not power to survive whatever poo poo we make for ourselves It is smarter to take preventative action than just hoping for the best, but we only apply the precautionary principle when it suits the interests of arms manufacturers and security firms. I'm not saying humans are guaranteed to go extinct in the foreseeable future, I just think the handwringing over 'I want my kids to be productive and self-supporting members of society' is laughable with the poo poo that is on the horizon. Unless you live in a self-sufficent compound and don't use fiat currency you aren't 'self-supporting' and productivity is completely subjective.

I too listened to a guy talk about "unschooling" his kids, on NPR while driving to work yesterday. I was hoping it would just be a buzzword for teaching better than public schools, but the guy literally just doesn't make his kids do anything but do farm chores and build bird houses and poo poo with their unschooling goof troop. Those kids will be hosed if they ever want to go to a good university, unlike dear old dad who dropped out of high school at 16 and everything happened to work out great for him.

i actually encourage more parents to unschool their children because the employment market is diluted by too many people with college degrees and if more people unschool their kids there will be more jobs available for me when the baby boomers finally all die

Who cares pre-K STEM-crunching ivy league track is a rube's game and your little overspecialized angel will be replaced by a chinaman before he hits 18. Homeschool your kids in running basic religious cons, selling oxy, and coaching folks to sign for a payday loan with an X and they will never go hungry so long as there are other homeschool kids.
