The research that casinos tout is that only 2% of gamblers are problem gamblers. lol, I'm pretty sure if you flip that statistic (i.e. 98%) it's closer to the truth.

Tweet Me Balls posted:i wish more business models revolved around giving you booze to make stupid decisions to make the business owner more money. that is supposedly why it is illegal to give out free drinks in a lot of (most?) states with casinos. but if they want to give out free drinks and their hands are tied by Johnny Law, why do they still have a 300-500% markup on alcoholic beverages? i don't think drunks are really that essential to profits for a lot of casinos (ones outside of Vegas, especially), in my experience, they often slow games down in their drunken stupor resulting in less bets for the casino with a house edge. of course, said drunks may not have made their bets without a little lube. still, i think most people who play are sobers or very casual drinkers where alcohol plays little role in their bets. though, vegas is probably the place where giving out free alcohol is worthwhile since it's a tourist destination and other casinos are much less so.
