The Atlas can carry about 1/3 more armor and about half again as much equipment, but the Timberwolf is 2/3s faster and (presumably) comes with Double Heat Sinks standard, and possibly CASE.

IIRC only a handful of planets actually have extensive settlement. Most are based around one or two large colony cities, which is also why orbital strikes can't really be a thing unless you want to rebuild all the infrastructure from the ground up after conquest.
