My personal preference is to go without insurance and work deals with the local hospital, who so far are willing to work with me. I pay $50 cash for office visits, and the one surgery my wife needed was $300. The surgeon was willing to take $50 for his hour of time but the anesthesiologist was being kind of a jerk. Our kid in 2005 cost us about $1500 which we paid off in monthly installments for a year, because there were complications and my wife had to stay for 2 nights. Sharing this information a couple years ago is what got me my custom title.
