"Don't be nice. Be good."
For me the game would have to be boogerman for the Sega Genesis. Mom brought it home with a bunch of other games after going to a church sale I think. She realized pretty quickly that it wasn't an appropriate game for me at my age but gently caress was it fascinating. you killed creatures by farting or spitting on them and basically all the levels were in the sewer. It was pretty gross but my little kid mind loved it.

We used to play this in University while pre drinking before going out to parties and stuff. It was an amazing game and back in that day one of the few multiplayer hot seat games going that would support like 8 players. There was no network in the dorm back then. The customizations available were amazing. For people of a certain vintage it's a huge game.

There's also this weird game that's a trivia board game, where you have to get your ship from the start to the end before your opponents do, and by answering trivia you gain bonuses like more rations and stuff. I believe there is also some money management involved as you buy cannons and rations.

i had a shareware copy of one game that had randomly generated dungeons which i played a lot, i can't remember the name but i keep thinking it was something like descent or depths, its probably not though. it was supposed to be scifi in the sense that you were exploring underground in some planet, but the thing that kept killing me was that you only had a limited amount of oxygen and when you ran out you died. there were mushrooms or something that you could use to get more oxygen, i think. i had a hex editor and went through changing certain values that were "01" to "00" until i found the one that modified the oxygen value and i got pretty far with it then. i thought that was pretty resourceful for a 10 year old but unfortunately ive never done anything as clever as that since.

another one was excelsior which i loved

i ended up buying the full version just a few years ago actually, even though it's still like $12 or something, and got around to finishing it but it was underwhelming over all

15 loving US dollars

Both of these owned. The first one is called Reaping the Dungeon. About ten years go i went back and completed the registered version, but it was also disappointing--it advertised like 60 levels compared to the 15 in the shareware version, but it did not add anything close to 4x as much content, so it was just a boring slog. Sadly a lot of shareware games did that. FIVE THOUSAND NEW LEVELS (that are all slight variations on the same thing, or huge empty boxes with cute names, and maybe 2 that are the same quality as the shareware levels.)

This game was the poo poo. It had local mutiplay where you could build giant armies to conquer everyone risk style. You send your heroes out on quests to gain level and get items like the wand of necromancy. We'd play games that were easily 12 hours long. Really had alot of fun and wasted a ton of hours on this game.

Have a look who did the sound design Dennis Dyack I was just scrubbing through the video and caught it like hepatitis from a toilet seat.

For me it's c-12 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DvH967MQ6ec I had to look up all the games listed on wikipedia until I found the description that matched it was so boring and forgettable. I think it scored 90% in a British gaming mag and considering it's a British company, maybe Gamergate was involved...

Pharaoh's Curse
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oezBzU6PpRg

Fort Apocalypse
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SK7Nj-8BON0

and Necromancer, easily one of the weirdest games ever. In level 1 you grow trees, in level 2 you go into these catacombs where you use the trees to crush spider eggs, then in level 3 you collect headstones in a graveyard and fight the Necromancer. They really don't make them like this anymore. Unfortunately, the guy in this video has some decent strategies worked out. It's more fun to watch someone flail their way through this game.

Here is a spooky halloween game. I played the poo poo out of this as a kid, it was one of the better LCD games.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BDlKgneJ5Hk

Then there was Merv the Merciless which sadly has no video on youtube.

I think it came free with a magazine. If you have an Amiga emulator, give it a try. Probably the most frustrating game ever. I often came close, but never quite beat it. You just have to stay on the screen, but it scrolls around randomly changing direction so you have to move around to keep up. There is Nosh (food) and Dosh (money) you need to not starve until the timer runs out, and when it does run out you need to have collected enough dosh to buy the chainsaw to beat the end boss. If you played it safe you survived the timer, but didn't have enough dosh, but if you went after the high risk Dosh, it was usually down a dead end, and the scroll direction change would kill you.

yesssss this was impossible for me and still extremely my jam when I was very young

other games I haven't seen mentioned yet that I would cut a bitch to play again:

- some weird castle-exploration game that came with one of the Encarta CD sets
- this horrible Nerf game that I think was just a reskin of Doom with Nerf guns and psychedelic colors and poo poo
- Elroy Goes Bugzerk. I thought I hallucinated this for a solid decade because no one, even my family members, recalled it
- these educational-ish games called like... "The Backyard" and "The Playroom" I think? were these common? I just remember learning about quails in an alphabet series and rolling my eyes because they clearly couldn't come up with much for the letter Q, but apparently it worked because I still remember that to this day, so uh... good job, lovely educational game?

I had extremely poor taste in games as a child, which is probably why I now have extremely poor taste in games as an adult!!
