Is tonight the greatest moment in Dominick Cruz's life?

No.

The greatest moment in my life was realizing that I didn't need a belt to be happy.
Hunt vs Werdum is a hope for the best but expect the worst kind of fight cause he's going up against a lot. I wouldn't be surprised if he had an undisclosed injury from the Roy Nelson fight in addition to fighting on 3 weeks notice, having to cut 50 pounds, fighting at a funny elevation, and still having to fight a good fighter in Fabricio Werdum.

But I still believe

i kinda feel like the result doesn't really matter, getting to this point is not only more than anybody expected when he joined the ufc, it's more than anybody expected when he started mma. it's a momentous and completely silly happening.

While searching for new Hunt pictures from Hunt's Japanese super fan, I saw that he posted a thread in the Underground and it got zero replies. The UG sucks.

Hello, everyone. I'm HASSY. Big fan of MARK HUNT.
Well...I watched UFC Fight Night JAPAN 2014 at Saitama super arena.
HUNT did again big KO, so I was very excited.

I like HUNT very much, but I came to like also Nelson so much.
I wanna support this two fat-guy now and forever LOL.

See I never thought Mark Hunt fighting for the UFC heavyweight championship was silly or unfeasible. When he first came over and lost to McCorkle on the prelims, yeah, he looked to be finished, but I think the Kongo fight was a turning point. He looked sharp and beat the poo poo out of Kongo quickly. It looked like two different levels of fighters in there. Which I know, beating Cheick Kongo doesn't mean a whole lot these days, but from there I figured he was already better than the field at HW. It would only be a matter of time.

Then he went on to have some really close and fun fights with other top heavyweights.

So I do think Hunt vs Cain for the real belt could happen with no shenanigans involved, the problem is Hunt is 40. gently caress.

Despite being 400 pounds and old and probably super punchy, Mark Hunt is probably healthier than Cain Velazquez on any given day.

The results of Saturday's test will not be known for approximately two weeks,

is it any coincidence that approximately two weeks from now Mark Hunt is fighting for a world title???

If he's walking around Mexico City in the heat then he's probably already halfway to making weight and probably reasonably well adjusted to the altitude. You get off the plane in Mexico City and run out of breath before leaving the airport.

stop the fucking fight, cornerman, your dude is fucking done and is about to be killed.
i'm not too worried about hunt's cardio. he went 5 extreme rounds in the bigfoot fight, and luckily fatigue doesn't stop him from hitting really hard or being really strong. how did werdum look in the travis brown fight? i missed that somehow.

Browne gassed out, possibly due to a broken rib in the first and werdum just kinda clowned on him for 5 rounds.

This belongs in the b-league thread but aren't athletes protected by the athletic commission if they refuse to fight an opponent that doesn't make weight? I guess this event is in florida where they don't have a strong AC

It also sounds like he agreed to the 3-round catchweight and purse garnishing, and then changed his mind the next day. MAybe that might be more what's at issue?

It's pretty lovely both ways. The difference is missing weight could be an accident but agreeing and then backing out at the last minute is worse for the organization. He's not worth the headache at that point.

Apparently it goes like this:

Ricci misses weight, and even though he doesn't look particularly drained he chooses not to try to lose the extra couple of pounds.
On the spot, Yoshida is asked to take a catchweight bout and agrees.
In the morning Yoshida discovers that the fight is no longer for the title, a detail he was not aware of. At the prospect of fighting a heavier guy who didn't have a tough cut without the potential reward of the belt, Yoshida decides to pull out.
Lex McMahon, CEO of Titan FC, fires Yoshida.
Lex McMahon is Mike Ricci's manager.
