if a baby grew up in the wild and climbed trees all the time it would probably be as strong as a chimp.

Individual muscle density or length, I forget which. Basically humans traded the strength for better agility with our hands or some poo poo like that

Their ligaments attach further down their bones than ours do. If you think of ligaments as a lever you can see that the same force from a muscle contraction would cause a much more powerful reaction. Its the difference between opening a door at the hinges vs. The knob. Source: gently caress chimps, I hate them.

It also means if you trained a chimp to be a baseball pitcher, the best they could do would result in the ball plopping onto the ground half-way to the batter.

This is a cool article: http://www.slate.com/articles/health_and_science/science/2009/02/how_strong_is_a_chimpanzee.html quote:The suspicious claim seems to have originated in a flapper-era study conducted by a biologist named John Bauman. Poe's story of the scalp-pulling orangutan struck Bauman as being "grotesquely impossible." In 1923, he noted that every expert in the field believed apes were vastly stronger than humans—yet none had ever tried to prove it. So he packed up a device used to measure pull strength, called a dynamometer, and set out for the Bronx Zoo. Later studies did disprove being 5 times stronger than humans but they are much stronger than human for their size.

He could probably pull your legs off. That lady who was attacked by the pet chimp a few years ago and had her face torn off: quote:The emergency crew described Nash's injuries as "horrendous". Within the following 72 hours, Nash underwent more than seven hours of surgery on her face and hands by four teams of surgeons. The hospital provided counseling to its staff members who initially treated her because of the extraordinary nature of Nash's wounds. Paramedics noted she lost her hands, nose, eyes, lips, and mid-face bone structure, and received significant brain tissue injuries. Doctors successfully reattached her jaw, but announced on April 7, 2009 that Nash would be blind for life. The chimp didn't cause those injuries by biting, he did it with his hands. If you're a male, it also common for them to try to pull off your dick and balls.

Chimps are downright sadistic little fuckers. They're not satisfied to just beat you or kill you, instead they want to disfigure you, bite off all your fingers and your nose, tear off your ears and dick, and peel the skin off your face. Every time I see someone on tv with a pet chimp I'm half expecting them to get mauled any second. Video of woman who survived a chimp attack. Intersting to note this chimp was 200lbs! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a3DeJjHAz8I

Funkstar Deluxe posted:Oh okay. I didn't watch the remake of Planet of the Apes, but you're saying the sequel (or prequel???) is worth watching? Oh actually that shot is from Dawn of the Planet of the apes (2014), which is the direct sequel to Rise of the planet of the apes (2011). Both are very good I think, but I think the sequel steels the show as you switch from a human-centric plot in Rise to an ape-centric plot in Dawn. I don't think they are at all related to the 2001 remake if that's what you're referring to. Acid Haze fucked around with this message at 04:52 on Dec 17, 2014 |
