Personally I prefer the ideology behind veal, where there is no pretense about the animal being food and its life is short and empty.

Veal grows up in a crate, is then killed and put in a crate, then butchered and put in a crate, then delivered to the butcher in a crate - why can't I just buy a new, fresh veal? Too many unnecessary steps in between, TBH.

The late 80s era freakout about veal seems sort of quaint since we all learned about factory farming and feedlots. Like, the way a chicken is treated makes veal's suffering seem sort of half-assed. The only complaint left against veal compared to any other meat is "cute baby."
