It's good to know that period dramas are the same in China as they are here and focus on the cleave heavy periods of history.

computer parts posted:if Zhou En Lai didn't exist China would probably have been much worse off than today. Zhou Enlai is legit interesting because he was a communist right from the get go, never took any poo poo and yet managed to never get purged basically because he was so good at his job no one could afford to get rid of him. I mean even in the run up to the way Chiang kai shek had the chance to execute him but chose not to because he needed him.

Ketmine makes you bladder dissolve if you keep doing it over an extended period. Also it might make you more susceptible to altzheimers but that it unconfirmed I think. Plus it's like a super 2010 drug, they are probably still listening to dubstep and poo poo while they do it.

I've never used the sciences in my work life or anything but I would be an immensely poorer person if I could not grasp the basics of them. Stuff like knowing newtons laws, or how chemicals react, or cell structure. The humanities only guy is dumb as gently caress (said as a guy with a masters in political economy).

This puts pressure to use those because your customers will have a demand for them I guess. That is a really clever policy actually.

Grand Fromage posted:They don't do MAD, no. China is estimated to have around 200 nukes. The logic is that they don't need to waste money on maintaining a massive arsenal because 200 is enough to devastate a country in a counterattack. It wouldn't wipe out the US but you'd flatten every major city and kill a hundred million people so that's enough. Yeah it's the same strategy the french developed which is that they could kill about half the population of the soviet union if they got attacked and that would be enough to make a nuclear attack on France untenable. To be honest I think the Americans were the only country that ever actively considered a first strike and that was only because Le May was actually insane.

bromplicated posted:At the UC I went to we had a huge influx of Chinese exchange students. Half of them didn't speak English, and couldn't so much as articulate what they wanted to eat in the dining hall let alone pass classes. They relied on the other exchange students who had a better grasp of English and basically wrote each others essays and cheated on tests together or just failed I dunno. They hung out in big Chinese groups together and didn't interact with anyone else unless they were forced to. I shared an apartment with one kid from Beijing for most of the school year. He would leave at 8am, study or do whatever he did all day, then come home at 8pm, put on his PJs, brush his teeth and go to sleep. Every single day. He had a continuous cough but didn't smoke, but I guess he grew up in Beijing so that's like smoking eight packs a day, right? He only ever said "hey, what's up" in English. He only would use the kitchen in the morning to drink a hot glass of water. Near the end of the school year one day he and his stuff were all just gone. No one missed him. No one but me, at least. There was a similar guy in my halls in first year. One day the rest of us went to the mall and when we can't back he was halfway through moving his stuff out.

Velisarius posted:I would hardly say Fox News and the like as being consumed by swaths of the western world. His company owns the biggest newspapers in the UK and Australia, it owns the WSJ, it owns the biggest satellite and cable broadcasters in Europe, it owns one of the world's biggest movie studios, it owns one of the world's largest publishers. Equating Murdoch with Fox News really underestimates the man's power to control what people all over the world see and hear.
