yay an SGF LP!  I hope they make enough episodes to at least finish the story., if only for SWERY's sake. I like his quirky stories and the little things like the fortunes and pushing random objects.

I predict that, as with Deadly Premonition, D4's central mystery will be more straightforward and less interesting than its secondary plots and background weirdness. I'm already wondering about the thematic significance of the colors white and red in Peggy's life. There was the white owl and the white cat (no sign of a pea-green boat so far). Peggy wears white, her name is derivative of "daisy" and "pearl," and of course she is very white post-exsanguination. But she refuses the clear/white tequila in favor of red cranberry juice, she chews the same strawberry-flavored gum as David (or, more likely, he chews it because she used to), and someone already pointed out the bag of red seeds in the bathtub. Maybe it's just leftover scenery from DP, but I'm hoping it points toward something more complex. Also, Peggy was very pregnant in the scene with the cartoon, but her case file doesn't seem to mention that and there isn't any sign of a child anywhere. So what happened there?

Okay, I was thinking of "central mystery" as "what's the deal with this town and how did that lead to Ana Graham's death" since that's what the player is trying to figure out. Wow, first part and already we have references/similarities with Memento (favorite movie) and ofcourse Deadly Premonition. There are also possibly some influences from Fahrenheit (aka Indigo Prophecy)'s early parts. I am hooked. The interface looks super restrictive though. Maybe because they wanted to utilize Kinect for every single action (?). It looks like they could at least allow free movement and free looking around, instead of walking into "nodes" and only turning in specific angles. In any case, I'd still probably instant-buy D4 the minute it came out for the PC. I don't have an Xbox One and I am not really interested in the rest of its exclusives (nor can justify the budget to get one).

I love characterizing the apartment is: it's good to see that David has all the hobbies and weird interests that York had. The episode was basically 30 minutes of following a traumatized widower as he puts on his records, eats supermarket food, and reads his paranormal magazines. And somehow it's amazing to watch.

Beaks, feet, feathers, everything. Nothing would surprise me at this point. It's like what, 1/4th the size of Ethan's Ikea catalog house, but has more than twice the amount of stuff to look at, and it all contributes to the apartment's/David's personality. A lot of this is because David has personality to show the player, even down to him chewing bubble gum like his wife did even though it's one of his "dislikes". It also helps that we started after the murder happened so David has an established goal even while you tool around his place (which is totally optional). Meanwhile, Heavy Rain's opening segment was just "Look how happy this happy family is in their house full of happy happiness!" while you're forced to sit through a lackluster birthday party then go to the mall. The whole time, Ethan is as interesting as a plank of wood with such notable traits as, uh, I guess he's pretty strong because he hugged his son to death while getting hit by a car? Ah, you spoil us with your guidance through another weird world of Swery, SGF. Also, for those hoping to look for D themselves, apparently Swery claimed that a PS4 port was out of the question but a PC release was a "maybe". It's enough to give me some hope for the future.
