They have. They only have 2 of the top 5 now and that is like 6 of the top 8 gone. Renfore and Hedges are the only two top guys they have left. They weren't exactly minting a ton of home grown stars so I really don't know how all in they are. They could be blue chips, they could be duds.

Am I weird for not particularly liking this trade for the Padres?

Melvin Upton is awful and signed until 2018, whereas Quentin only has 1 more year on his deal. Maybin is probably never going to hit but he's a very good defender in CF. Kimbrel owns, but the Padres already had a pretty good bullpen.
Wisler is a pretty legit prospect and Paroubeck and the competitive balance pick have value as well, though obviously who the hell knows how they will pan out.
How's Upton defense? Can he play a decent CF at least?

I don't hate the trade, but I'm not feeling super excited about it, to be honest.

Kimbrel is an amazing anchor and worth a few years of crappy Upton' s contract to me, especially if the Padres are able to resign Justin. It's beginning to hit me that the O'Malley ' s have money to spend here and are going to get payroll up to the middle tiers of the league.

It makes total sense, and if you are going to rebuild then rebuild hard. That's a really good return, but it's sure gonna suck to see him pitching for someone else.

That's kind of the rub in all of this. The new stadium will make more money, but stadium money is dwarfed by TV money, and the Braves still have by far the shittiest tv contract in baseball. Maybe they are poisoning the TV ratings in order to force...themselves to renegotiate? heh.
