I guess if you live in a big city that has adequate public transportation and have no aspirations to ever leave there, you could get by without one. Relying on other people being your ride for life any time you want to go somewhere the bus/subway doesn't go would be pretty annoying for me though. Even living in zurich where they have great public transportation that can take me pretty much anywhere I still wish I had a car over here. If you have a valid medical reason why you can't, fine, but I would think those are pretty rare. I know a lot of people, here in particular, like to blame "anxiety" but like with most things people get anxiety about, it goes away with practice. I have an uncle who has never had a drivers license or an actual job. He just turned 60 and still lives with my grandma in her basement. So when I meet unemployed licenseless 20-30 year olds I can't help but assume they are going to end up like that guy.
