and your job is?

I am an engineer, I work in biometrics. We get 2 weeks of severance per year of service, so if the dumbass MBA's ever lost our major contracts out here and they were forced to let everyone go I'd have a few months off before waltzing into my next job.

We did fire one guy a few weeks ago. He had a nice job that would generally warrant similar treatment, but because he was such a worthless dumbass we told him to gtfo a day or two after he bought a new car.

You should be killed for not being good at your job though. I hope that guy had to sell his car and suck dick at a truck stop to pay his mortgage.

So is it even worth it to give two weeks notice? Is the two weeks notice a myth constructed by corporations to take advantage of us plebs?
Do not give two weeks notice unless you are okay with being terminated the day you give notice. If you are employed at-will your employer can respond to the notice by terminating your employment immediately. They can also just terminate you immediately without any specified reason anyway so that doesn't really change anything.

Conversely, if they ask you to stay longer you of course don't have any obligation, and can quit on the spot with no reason given.

Yeah the 2 week notice thing is not a requirement but rather a professional courtesy. If you wanted you truly could say "take this job and shove it" and walk out right now. If you wanted.

How come when an employee decides to quit they have to give two weeks notice, but when an employer fires you they don't have to give 2 weeks notice? It's not fair imo.

How come when you kill yourself you leave a note but if you die of natural causes you leave a will. Makes you think.

What a lovely thing to do.

"Dear employer,
Hey, I'm trying to be professional by giving you my two weeks notice. I appreciate the opportunity to work at your company and I wish you well. Goodbye."

"gently caress you, you're fired and I hope you starve to death. -Sincerely, your boss."

No, you're socialist because you don't make much money and have to live by the whims of people who do.

if they can you you get UI, which is worth a lot more than two weeks' pay if you don't already have another job in the pipe. If you do, who loving cares, two weeks surprise vacation
