Rabah Iowaquote:From the Office of the Chief Executive quote:BEANSTALK Project Plan Bullet Point Executive Summary My mother died when I was 5. Something had gone wrong for her, when the Impact came... she held on for 5 years, but that was all. I don't even remember her except as a figure in an isolation room, weak. Weakness. I no longer accept weakness. That's what my father taught me. He came to get me when my mother died. Took me away from my aunt, though she glared. He was a military man. We didn't move around much, though. Mostly we stayed at Fort Iris. He was important there, he said. It was a big base, with its own school, and we learned the important things there. Reading. Writing. Arithmetic. Survivalism. Piloting. Tactics. CQC. Importance. We were important, he always said. Myself and his other children. The next generation. Sometimes, it didn't seem that way. Iichi vanished one day, and nobody said anything. Eventually, when I asked, father said he didn't pass something important. That he'd been sent somewhere else to catch up. Maybe we'd see him again someday, he said. We never did. And the classes continued. And people kept going missing. Until it was only me, and father. "Little Eagle," he'd say, gently, "you continue to leave the useless behind. I'm proud of you." Father was very proud of me, he said. I'd made it. I'd proven I was as important as he always said. I knew everything I needed to be an adult in this new world. So now, Iris was done. And I was going to Boston without him. To fulfill my purpose. Purpose. Yes. I have been given purpose by father. I will not be weak. I will not "catch up." I will kill those who need killing, and triumph over the enemies of America. Father said he'd be watching. Watch me, father. Watch your little Eagle fly. Rabah's Quarters ...there are other options than the barracks? Why would you want to be away? What happens if something attacks and you're up three of these ludicrously badly designed streets? I would never forgive myself if someone came to harm because I was away! The barracks have everything I need. What else is there? Tactical Commander Pauline Adams Father warned me that sometimes people who Aren't Suited are placed above those who are. I am trying to reserve judgement here, as only a combat situation will show capability, but... I am suspicious that she will falter when the crucial moment comes. She is already wasting time on "team building" and "getting to know us" and "leading as a friend..." This is a military situation. There's no time for that sort of nonsense. She either leads, or doesn't. We become a team through training and combat, or we don't, and she has to compensate. A soft touch is going to get us all killed.

Celebration comes second to cleaning the materiel for the next battle. Then, you may have a restrained celebration at base, near the launch vehicles, in case of further issues.

I think the easy solution is to decrease the defense of enemies, increase their thresholds, and increase their offense. Construct Angels so at each threshold loss, it changes the battle, but in a new offensive way. Avoid making super defensive angels unless that's the entire point- a puzzle angel like everyone's favorite floating octahedron. That way, we feel like we're actually making worthwhile rolls, the angel "adapts" as the battle moves onward, and they're a reasonable threat.

If I'm tallying correctly I have 18 xp, primarily because I am apparently still a teenager in my head. Rabah grows ever more paranoid, picking up Awareness 6->7 and Danger Sense. (7 + 5 CP.) She buries herself in her studies to avoid the ever increasing distrust she feels for the other pilots, raising Intellect 4->5 (5 CP) and banking 1 CP for a later date. NERV recognizes Rabah's skill with her AT field and provides appropriate training in using it offensively, giving 04 a Beam Ripper (5 MP). In conjunction with the training, some of the excessive armor on 04 is stripped away in favor of trusting the AT field, increasing the close range speed and power of 04. Might increases to 6 from 4. (11 MP) 2 MP are banked. Rabah continues to research the black box nature of her machine, to no avail. Until we hit Tension 5, her Secret Equipment remains just that- a secret.

I'm enjoying the system- just a few kinks to be worked out, I think. The real problem imo is that it is definitely a system where you can cripple yourself with the wrong optimization and I think a couple of us have. I'm good, but I think a couple of y'all have straight not used all your points, or have split builds that aren't really getting used properly. Unrelately, when I get home I'm gonna check something. I think I might have a way to keep Hannah up, or barring that if I can reach her, bring her back up, depending on GM ruling. I may be able to soak some of that damage for her, or, if you're good with it Gnoll, use Jury Rig to get her back on her feet.

Nope, can't save Hannah - too far away. However, it's time to declare my secret equipment, seeing as we've hit T5... I do not want to switch to a less crunchy system. Most of the problems we're having are related to people not engaging with BCG's crunch and that's fine and all, but at this point I've kinda fallen in love with the crunch and I really don't want to go back to something more loosey-goosey. At least, no more FATE. I'm pretty 100% done with FATE as a system right now.

Gnoll, as a question - can I take Precious Snowflake? It seems sort of busted for the role I am intending on fulfilling. Walking Coffin is literal suicide for a tank so no. I didn't actually take Precious Snowflake, I was asking. Everything on the mech fits in the original XP budget. For the record, I should have the most XP and have 183 total by my tally.

You take (20-[your mech defense (guard+5)]) + 7, so I think 16 is correct. For the attack I get to pick what is maimed, and would pick Arms. For the raw damage you get to pick. Your genre power triggers if you want it to at that point, negating said maiming anyway. Then, Your Fate Is Sealed, and yes, it's your turn. Hannah was always Rabah's dark (or light) mirror, so her getting a truly peaceful ending would be a good counterpoint to Rabah's (both or however many there will eventually be) infinite and pointless struggle. Rabah's life is intended to be endless duty and endless failure, so the irony of the actual clone finding meaning and success in something else would be just right on the pathos-o-meter.
