Problem description: My H97M Pro4 and i5 4460 came in today so I attempted to upgrade my current main system. I'm using 2x Ripjaw 1333 dual channel ram and OCZ 700watt on my main system and it was running perfectly fine. After replacing the motherboard and CPU, my system does not boot up, but I can see the ethernet LED blink when I plug it in and turn on my PSU. Attempted fixes: -Re-seated all parts and reconnected everything, including the 24pin, 12v 8pin power, and the power/reset button. *update* -Tried to put my old setup back again now it won't power up -Did the paper clip trick to test my PSU and it works Recent changes: None besides the motherboard and CPU -- Operating system: WIndows 7 System specs: Current system:H61M-P31, core i3-2120, 2x Ripjaw 1333 DDR3, OCZGXS700, Sapphire Radeon 5770 Location: US I have Googled and read the FAQ: Yes Now I really have no clue what's going on. Any advice would be appreciated. Revalis Enai fucked around with this message at 03:51 on May 23, 2015 |

Have you tried removing all hardware and adding in components one by one, attempting to boot between each addition, to try and diagnose a specific part that may be faulty?

Are you absolutely sure you have the power switch plugged in properly?

I think I've found the issue. I decided to try plugging the new motherboard to another power supply and it powered up. I'm assuming at this point the issue is with the PSU. It's strange to me because it was working fine before I performed the upgrade and the paper clip trick starts it up. I have a Corsair CSM 550 on the way so hopefully it will fix the problem. Will update with the results.

Just got my PSU today and everything is working now after putting everything back together. I now know that the paper clip trick is not a reliable way to test my PSU and that I probably shouldn't wait for 5 years before replacing one. I also learned about the existence of motherboard and PSU testers. I'll have to get them some time in the near future.
