That really is the way off the world though, isn't it? Some brilliant people do all the heavy lifting and develop ideas that bring about huge advances in technology, and then people get pissed off for some reason and ostracize them? Another pitfall geeks make is they start thinking about steam pouring off their coffee, or they're daydreaming spinning a plate at lunch and so they publish some papers (this is the key mistake) and some other less space cadet scientists come along and think "wow, this is great! I bet we can kill entire cities with a few tweaks here and there!". Just stare at the clouds in your coffee, don't publish papers about it and you're golden.
