Internet reviewing becoming a thing is one of weirdest consequences of the great recession. Its kind of telling how production from the Chez Apocalypse producers has slowed since the economy has gotten better and they have been able to start families and carriers in fields they actually want to work in. Makes for a pretty good argument to live in New York City rather than a hell hole like Phoenix or any where in Minnesota.

AVGN videos routinely and easily get millions of hits, I think his audience is a bit more than that.

Internet reviewers don't have a lot of artistic integrity in the first place, but you can tell they've jumped the shark once they start including long skits or having "crossovers" with other internet reviewers. I imagine most successful reviewers start out doing something they enjoy, not necessarily what they think will "sell," but that's when they really start feeding into their own egos instead of producing content someone besides themselves will enjoy.

Board James is probably better than the AVGN show at this point.

Yeah Movie Bob can actually articulate his thoughts and has the decency to keep his videos short and mostly to the point, but then you learn about his 100 episode Game Overthinker series and how sad a lot of his life seems outside of talking about popular culture.

I've heard Doug Walker himself is a decent enough guy, but no such excuse about Linkara. I saw that Todd in the Shadows is still going but it made me kind-of sad. He seems like a chill dude who needs to graduate to being a suit instead of talking about teeny bopper music.

If you want a glimpse into Bob's life P4R's review of his book is pretty revealing and sad to read for multiple reasons; namely that P4R tries to be The Onion of gaming websites and the fact that the book is beyond satire.

Really? Moviebob's reviews suck (and it's funnysad he speeds up his audio to sound smarter) but his dumb skits where he fights himself in his pajamas is so bad it's good. Also his Super Mario 3 book is a great glimpse into how sad his life is. It is a real world Rusty Brown.

I like them relative to most internet reviewers I've seen. Agreed that it's funnysad on his voice, but the unintended benefit is that it helps keep his reviews and thought pieces short.

I do want to read the SM3 book to get the full glimpse though.

I think it's hilarious that Movie Bob committed career* suicide over Gamergate.

Speaking of career* suicide, nobody who's been brought up is nearly as bad as the 'Current Releases' clowns that our own dear SA used to have. They were literally the worst critics that I have ever seen in my entire life.

Yeah, I guess speeding up his voice does mean less time having to hear his voice. I downloaded a pdf of his book ages ago, and it is still sitting on my desktop. Whenever I see its icon, I get a nice little chuckle. The good parts are quoted on a bunch of reviews for the most part.

Bill Corbett told Spoony to gently caress off after Spoony tried to start a twitter playfight over Highlander if I remember right. There's an image somewhere. Gotta suck to have one of your idols shut you down, but considering how poorly Spoony treats his fan, it was total justice.
