I am sorry for the misplay.Stelas posted:Oh, and: I'm pretty sure Imperial Roads specifies it has to be to and from Roman cities. I thought it meant that I get one free move when I walk out or get in a Roman city. Well, that is not exactly true: at first I thought it meant that I can just have one army "teleport" istantly from one city to another but that seemed overpowered, so I figured it must be this. Was I right the first time? Or is it something else? paradoxGentleman fucked around with this message at 12:58 on Sep 21, 2015 |

paradoxGentleman posted:I am sorry for the misplay. No worries! I think you had it right the first time, checking the detailed examples at the back of the book: once a turn, you can have one group of troops move at no action cost to another of your cities, provided it's up to 2 spaces away.

Ignoring the little Persian sparrow who would do well not to bother the Roman eagle, here is my new turn: -Activate Mediolanum, harvest 2 Food and 2 Wood (Roads+Husbandry allows me to reach the forest near New Delhi) -Develop Draft (which nets me 1 Mood as stated earlier) -Produce 3 armies in Londinium, one of which with Mood. -Send those soldiers to Ravenna via Imperial Roads.

Turn 4-2-1: It is Babylonia's turn! The Barbarians at G3 assault Akkad! Barbarian attack: 1 Army + 1 Elephant = 2d6 = 4 Akkad counterattack: 1 Army + 1 Cavalry + Fortress + Steel Weapons = 3d6+6 = 2 3 5 = 16. 3 hits, brought down by the elephant to 2 hits. The Barbarian army is wiped out! The settlement isn't automatically taken over, but someone can just march an Army in there whenever they like. Unfortunately, defeating Barbarians in a raid doesn't give you Gold - only if you assault their camp. They don't take their valuables with them when attacking a city, after all. Also I totally forgot: Babylonia activates Star Catalogues for causing an event. As Mood is maxed out, they pick up a Culture token. Babylonia has two actions left. paradoxGentleman posted:We really allowed barbarians to grow out of control, haven't we. Not that badly. Barbarians can be a sticking point for new players - they're kinda big, and look scary at first glance. What we're seeing is pretty common - Barbarians tend to pile up as people hit their technology stride, but then Steel Weapons hits and they almost immediately become a non-issue. A bonus +5 to your roll is extremely big and clever.

Update in a bit, but yeah you can't move through other units. Your Armies would encounter the Settler, instakill it (because Settlers can't fight back), and have to stop for the turn. It's nice to see all this diplomacy, but there can be only one winner!

I'll start off getting a culture and two gold at the start of the turn. I'm worth billions and am the only leader running a self-financed empire. I won't have to answer to Big Collector. 1. Spend a culture token to use the Great Diplomat. Nobody has more respect for me than Augustus, truly a great guy. Helping me out with those roads was a class act. [pause for event]
