"Goku is a bad dad" really comes from him raising Gohan the way that Roshi raised him. and even so Goku accepts Gohan the way he is and doesn't get mad that he doesn't train or take up the mantle of 'guardian of earth'. That's why he goes off with Uub--so that Gohan can be free to nerd it up and Uub could be the next guardian of earth. And super shows him as pretty close with Goten so yeah. After he becomes Majin Vegeta and realizes he isn't a BAD MAN and cares more about his family than about beating Goku he's an Official Good Guy. He's obsessed with training but he'll go out of his way to make trunks and Bulma happy. Again, consider that Vegeta was raised by a genocidal maniac and had a pretty good hunch that said maniac murdered his entire race and personally killed his actual parents.
