Would you be my new best friends?

Last month, Jay Lethal won a very close vote after a dominating victory the month before, though perhaps what is even more impressive is that he was able to defeat the winningest Pro-Wrestling champ in poll history, Kazuchika Okada.

Now it is time to see who was our Champion for the month of August. To be eligible, a wrestler needs to have held any of the currently accepted title belts for at least one day of the month OR had at least one title defense since becoming Champion. This means if someone wins the title on the last day of the month and defends it that night, they're eligible, and if they win the title on the first day of the month and don't defend it at all, they're eligible. The only case where someone won't be eligible is if they win the title on the last day of the month and don't defend it. Please note that belts for promotions such as PWG haven't been included in monthly polls so far because not only can months go by where the Champion doesn't defend their belt, but where the Champion doesn't make an appearance or even do a promo about his title. If you feel this is inaccurate and you are willing to provide me with links/information etc on a monthly basis showing why your favorite promotion's Champion is actively doing stuff as champ and deserves to be on the poll, then I'm happy to change this stance. Also, given some of the things that have been said over the last few months, the monthly "None of the Above" option is now just as valid a "winner" as any other Champion. If enough people truly feel none of the current Champions deserve a vote, that will be reflected in the final results.

Now onto the eligible contenders for the month just gone - Feel free to make an argument for/against any particular champion you might in this thread!

:perfect: Jay Lethal (ROH World Champion) - Lethal's victory last month in the poll was not as dominating as in the previous month, perhaps not helped by the fact his big match that month ended in a time-limit draw where he couldn't put away Roderick Strong. So this month he faced Roderick again, in a taping for a special Championship Edition of ROH Television which (as far as I can tell, correct me if I'm wrong) will air this week just outside of the window for this month. If this isn't the case, or you were live at the event and wanna vote based on what you saw, then go ahead. But while the decision may or may not have gone Lethal's way, everybody was in agreement that the match Jay and Roderick had was once again absolutely outstanding.

:homebrew: Kazuchika Okada (IWGP Heavyweight Champion) - Okada almost won the poll last month, but his tremendous victory over AJ Styles wasn't quite enough to get him the win. This month saw NO defenses of his title because of the G1 Climax, which Okada himself took part in. Of course, the G1 is really ALL about the Heavyweight Title, and Okada had tremendous matches against rivals old and new setting the stage for plenty of intrigue in the months to come. Whether you think that is worthy of a vote or not is up to you.

:eyepop: Prince Puma (FORMER Lucha Underground Champion) - The first season of Lucha Underground came to a spectacular end with Ultima Lucha, where Prince Puma went one on one with the embodiment of death.... and came up short. The Aztec spirit of the Puma was no match for Muerte's death magic, and though he went down valiantly, he still went down in a losing effort and lost the title on the last match of the season.

:megadeath: Mil Muertes (Lucha Underground Champion) - Muertes, after being dispatched to the afterlife by his mirror opposite Fenix (the embodiment of life, and bearer of the Gift of the Gods belt in a teaser for season 2), returned seemingly more powerful than ever. Accompanied by a magical trio of undead luchadors and the ever present Catrina, Muertes tore through everybody in his path to get to Prince Puma, and defeated him to become the new Lucha Underground champion in the season finale. Troubled by this dark turn of events in addition to his own troubles with "Mexico", LU owner Dario Cuerto took to the roads to find a new temple in which to stage his battles, with Muertes presumably to follow. With any luck this will not be the last we see of Lucha Underground, and Muertes will return in season 2 with the title. In any case, with the first season over and nothing happening with the belt until (if) season 2 can begin, for now this is the last time the LU Belt will be in this poll, and thus your only chance to vote for Muertes. May the belt quickly return to the poll.

 Seth Rollins (WWE World Heavyweight Champion) - Rollins' month ended poorly with the furore over his girlfriend's apparently unapologetic social media postings re: Nazis and racist statements. Some would say the rest of his month didn't go too well either, as he was frequently overshadowed or shoved aside in favor of other stars. But Rollins did what nobody else had been able to do to date, and not only retained his World Title at Summerslam against John Cena, but defeated him and won his US Title in the process. Now a double champion, Seth is now referred to as "The Man" by Triple H, but his triumphs are again being overshadowed by the magical theft of his promised statue by the returning Sting, and the knowledge he will have to defend the US Title against Cena at Night of Champions AND the World Title against Sting. Seth just wanted his drat statue!

:wotwot: Ethan Carter III (TNA World Heavyweight Champion) - Carter continues to get high praise as he grows more comfortable in his role of a despicable heel champion - it is just unfortunate that his rise to the top coincided with what may very well be TNA's final days as a promotion. It's aggravating but because of the heavy taping schedule Impact now undertakes, it is difficult to get a sense on whether title matches Carter has had have even aired yet, but even if they haven't he has also successfully defended his belt in other promotions as part of their live events. Carter is not the architect of TNA's misfortune, but he is one of those who seems to be suffering from it.

:flashfap: Masato Yoshino (FORMER Open the Dream Gate Champion) - Yoshino had yet another blowaway match defending his title in August. Unfortunately for him, this time he did not retain.

:smithmouth: Shingo Takagi (Open the Dream Gate Champion) - Shingo Takagi won the title for the third time, after an unsuccessful attempt against prior Champion BxB Hulk. His second reign was two years ago and lasted little more than a month, can his third reign be more successful?

:dukedog: Hiroyoshi Tenzan (FORMER NWA World Heavyweight Champion) - After a month focused on the G1 Climax, Tenzan traveled to the US to defend his NWA Title for the first time in several months, where he lost the belt.

:jackbud: Jax Dane (NWA World Heavyweight Champion) - Jax Dane, most noted for the fact his name sounds like Jack Stain, defeated Tenzan for the NWA Title. He is likely to defend the belt more often than Tenzan, and we can probably expect to see him in New Japan at some point accompanied by Bruce Tharpe.

:goku: Hirooki Goto (IWGP Intercontintal Champion) - Goto spent most of the month involved in the G1 Climax tournament and, while he had some excellent matches, had no title defenses.

:jerry: What's the deal with these Champions? (None of the Above) - If not a single one of these champions is of any interest to you, then vote this option to express that disdain, or just to see the results of other people's voting.

Also I'm really sorry if I ended up spoiling anything, especially in regards to ROH/TNA where they do a ton of tapings and it's not always possible for me to find the airdates to see if stuff that has happened has actually "happened" yet or not. Especially since I think they sometimes pick and choose matches from different tapings and put them together.

Lethal didn't even win his title defense this month. It's gotta be one of the Lucha Underground guys, depending on how you feel about acknowledging Muertes' win vs. the culmination of Puma's reign.

If the women were booked the same way on the main roster as they are on NXT, I wouldn't even hesitate to put the Divas Championship up as an option on the poll, and it would probably win a fair few times a year too (I would vote for Bayley in a heartbeat).

I kinda feel like NXT's champions are worthy enough of inclusion if LU and TNA are on here. NXT's champions have or will defend in Japan and the UK which makes them at least as much or more 'world' champions as Mil or EC3.
