According to NPR, (lol?) the current generation of voters is less interested in "electability" than they are in candidates that most accurately represent their interests. This kind of push, mostly by millennials, is moving the electorate to the left and also away from centrist or inclusive candidates. That's why you see Bernie Sanders with more of a following than Clinton. It may affect the right as well with Libertarian candidates.
