well yeah the pertinent piece of information there being 'CEO convinced the shareholders to vote the other dude off the board.'
The reason CEOs get traded around like athletes and get paid so much with such nice severances is because the corporate culture has created this phenomenon where boards think that's what it takes to get a talented executive. It's not a question of is the CEO overpaid, it's a question of 'if we don't give the CEO millions then we'll never get a good CEO because they'll all go work somewhere that will give them millions.' It's kind of a crazy game that has come about in the last couple decades.
imo CEO wages should be somehow tied to the wages of the lowest rung employee so if he wants to give himself a $10m/yr salary great but they have to pay their employees say 1/100th of that as their yearly salary minimum. Make that a federal law and watch the wealth gap shrink.
They'd just create a new position called the executive chief grand high poobah to earn the millions and pay lawmakers to exclude it from the law and pay some nobody the call himself the CEO
