I've worked for a Mcdonald's franchise and the retarded owner would only pay the most minimum of wage, not even high schoolers would work there because they could easily get a $10 an hour job at Harris Teeter, so only drug addicts and homeless for employees! I was promoted to manager in 6 months and once I got a real look at the books I realized none of the managers or the owner were doing their jobs correctly, everyone misreported stock and daily profits, constantly selling food under the table so they could make up for low safe balance. It didn't help that only 2 of the managers spoke English, and of course when I start trying to turn things around absolutely no one wants to help because everyone is being paid too low. corporate inertia is a bitch they are hosed

basically in-n-out is what mcdonalds would have been if ray crock never purchased the company and the mcdonalds brothers passed the company to their children and so on. both started with virtually the same circumstances. in a bizarro alternate reality you could switch the brands.
