Trails in the Sky Second Chapter - I hate fishing. Can someone just tell me EXACTLY where the gently caress I'm supposed to fish to get the Pearlglass Fish, and EXACTLY what rod and bait I need for the Rolent "Diaset's Secret" quest?

Pearlglass fish can be caught with Earthworm, Dumplings or River Snail as bait. The rod doesn't matter, it only determines what bait you can use. The starter rod can use Earthworm, so that's enough to catch Pearlglass. As for locations where Pearlglass is catchable, there are two in Rolent. One next to the bridge in Elize Highway and one in (end of chapter spoilers) Mistwald near the tree where you find Luciola and fight the chapter bosses.

I recommend savescumming just in case you get unlucky and don't have much bait.

Thanks, that's helpful

Also, another problem, how the goddamn gently caress are you supposed to beat the Mouki monsters in Rolent's sewer's second room as part of another Bleublanc puzzle hunt? There are three of them with 8800+ HP, they suck huge chunks of HP off to heal themselves, and they summon more of themselves as reinforcements, meaning that you can easily end up in a situation where you have MORE of them on the field than when the fight first started. gently caress that fight.

I thought going into it with full CP gauges would help, but even unleashing two of them onto one doesn't kill one.

Okay, thanks. I did it this time with Agate + Zane and I mostly tried to burst them down one at a time with S-Crafts and Earth Lance and that finally worked.

One last thing: Is it possible to find the original recipe for Rolent's "Nostalgic Recipe" quest currently? There's a lot of dialogue going "gee, it's too bad that we couldn't find the original", which I'm reading as "find the original for max BP", but I've talked to everyone I can think of... except maybe people at the mine... (I should do that next actually), but no one seems to know the original.

It says it's a "long-term" quest, so is this a case of you're supposed to leave and come back later? I wouldn't think so, since all other previous quests have been solvable before leaving, but this gives me the sense that I'm missing something.

I'm definitely enjoying SC, although I seem to have missed the second chapter of Gambler Jack somewhere in Chapter 1 (Agate version). A pity since I found all the others (er, in the first 5 chapters).

This is possibly going to be a long rambling and irrelevant post, so feel free to skip it because it may not be very interesting.

Back in May-June, I did a Nightmare playthrough of TitS FC, carrying over everything. At the time, I was hopeful that SC would be coming out fairly soon (and really, I'd been wanting to replay it again anyway and I couldn't stop myself anyway.) When SC finally came out at the end of October, I had to decide whether to jump right in, or replay FC for a fourth time, knowing it would delay getting into SC for a few weeks. I decided to replay FC, this time going back to basics and doing a new game on normal, carrying over nothing. The experience was subtly different than that of my blind playthrough on normal, because this time the monster book was working, so if I needed a few extra Sepith to make new quartz, it wasn't hard to find some monster I could kill to get them from.

I didn't regret replaying FC at all. There was so much fantastic stuff which I'd forgotten about, so many lines which genuinely caught me off guard and made me laugh even though I'd played the game before already a couple times.

I did a max BP and all Carnelia run basically by memory. I only screwed up once and had to load a previous save (it was escorting Hardt from Bose to Krone). The second-best part though was going into the fight versus Lorence and completely schooling him on my first try. This was on a fresh playthrough, with no carry-over. I think he managed to get off one Earth Guard EX, but that was it. No Silver Thorn, no Demon Flames. The third-best part was abusing Earth Wall to make Reverie impotent. It got off one successful Death Rage to kill Agate, but that was all. It really is amusing to have all max health characters at the end of "really hard" battles and the story going "wow how did we ever win that one"? I beat the game at level 37, which is my lowest attempt.

What was the best part of my replay of FC? It was when after hitting the Exit Game button in FC, I could immediately hit Play Game for SC.

I really love all the new music for SC. FC had only so many themes, and SC has added a whole lot more music - not just battle music, but background music during dialogue sequences. I'll have to dig around in the OGG files and find out which tracks are which.

The story in SC is great. I like how Estelle made the point in flashback that she was leaning on Joshua a lot of the time, and she'll have to become better standing on her own. Estelle's character development is subtle, but she comes across as a lot smarter and more capable without losing what made her Estelle. She no longer is the hapless Junior Bracer.

The new quests in SC are also great in that regard. They’re both more complicated and more involved. The stuff she does as a senior bracer has a lot more steps. There’s more investigation and interrogation and more of the gruntwork that would indeed be a part of the job. The description of what a Bracer does in FC always came across to me as something like "freelance police". They are a legally recognized body authorized to investigate crimes and carry out arrests, and the quests in SC emphasize that a lot more.

The combat also seems a lot tougher. In one early dungeon (Chapter 1 - Agate - Old Schoolhouse Basement), you get into a forced fight at the start with a single tough cookie. The rest of the dungeon has various other enemies, including physical-evading ones which impede casting, weak enemies which buff enemies speed and strength when they die. The let you get used to those, and then halfway through, they throw in an encounter where there’s a tough cookie, the casting-impede guys, and the buffing-on-death guys. That creates a situation where you have to pick your targets pretty carefully. You want to take down the impede guys quickly because they’re obnoxious, but the ones which buff on death want to be left for last because their damage output is so weak it can be safely ignored, and you don’t want to give buffs to everyone else. That's just an example, because a lot of combat is more strategic than it was before.

I'm now up to early Chapter 5 and I'm loving this game. I can't wait to see what comes next. I'm trying to go for max BP, but I'm not going to use a guide for it. If I miss points, I miss points (and I can tell that I already missed some points.) That's okay, there are more playthroughs to come.

***

I'm surprised to see comments on SC like "argh I'll have to wait for a second playthrough to see what happens to take Olivier to the hot springs". This game has 1000 save slots. I'm using them like candy. I've used those to play a couple scenes with different party members, but that usually doesn't matter all that much unless one of the characters has a connection to someone involved. The lines end up being pretty interchangeable for the most part.

Second Chapter - Does anyone know the song name and the number for the ED6xxx.OGG for the song that plays in Bose (Chapter 5) after the market incident? and the same for the new Ancient Dragon's Lair dungeon later on?

[Chapter 6] No fair, game!

I wanted to see if it was possible to beat the Estelle vs Gilbert + 4 Enhanced Jagers fight, even though I entered the chapter with most of my good quartz stuck on unavailable people.

I had to make do with a Scent + Action 3 + Luck + EP 3 for her first line, and Scent + HP4 + Mind 4 + Defense 4 on her second. That gave her Clock up EX, Clock Down, White Gehenna, and Teara and Tearal. The strategy for the fight was pretty simple. Clock up EX, followed as soon as safely possible with Clock Down, and then White Gehenna's all day.

It actually worked too. I got them down to just one Jager who had Max Guard up, and I had a fully-charged True Barrage ready, but as soon as I wiped out the guard of the Jager, in preparation to Barrage him down, the game cheated and went to a cutscene. Granted, this time it was a cutscene where they're going "how the hell is she still still holding us at bay", but I TOTALLY had that fight.

I wonder if there's any extra BP in it for that (although I doubt it).

I did not finish the Tratt Plains "Abyss Worm" monster sidequest, because that fight appears to be literally loving impossible. There are like 8 of the goddamn fuckers and they spam thousand-damage attacks. Oh, and of course, at that point I'm down two ZPMs. The only possible way I could see to beat them is if Kloe was in the party, and that's not possible. It is a goddamn ridiculous fight. Any ideas?

I at least have thirteen chapters of Gambler Jack. I hope that's all of them up until that point. I found them all on my own as well, except for the second one, which cheated by hiding in the list of casino prizes.

Also, story-spoilers for SC, I do want to complain: Oroborous is not a secret criminal organization. It's a goddamn loving country with all the manpower and resources needed to wage open warfare on other countries. They already have mentioned the Thirteen Factories, which doesn't even seem the half of it. How the hell can something on that scale exist and be a secret? The amount of resources it would take to build the Glorious is huge. Plus their scout ships and dozens and dozens of other robots, and their ground troop Jagers.

I just tried that fight again loading a save from when I was nearby. Even picking at them one at a time it was painful, even using Clock Down on them. Once I got them down to just three, AT delay moves worked to pretty much shut down the one getting hit. It was 5 BP, which would have gotten my to 366. So based on a completely unfounded random guess that the final quest will give me 10 BP, I'm probably short anyway. EDIT: If there's no BP in the finale, then I'm obviously way short on what I would have needed. But I wanted to play this completely blind, so missing out is part of that trade-off.

Honestly I hate Agate's "improved" Wild Rage craft, It's only useful if he is on full health which is rare (I'm not going to memorize his max HP and calculate if it's above 70% or not each time). His FC Wild Rage was excellent, it's pretty easy to see if he can survive a 30% hit to his health. The new version sucks balls.

Whoops. That was dumb of me. I'm glad I keep frequent saves. Guess I have to go replay that bit again. At least I didn't get too much farther.

Also speaking of that area of Chapter 9 - Even though I was basically guessing randomly, I managed to get Kloe's Gospel original on my first attempt. Well, I guess it wasn't totally random, because I remembered Kloe had an ancestor here, and so she was the best candidate, and Celeste was the most female-sounding first name, and Auslese was the obvious last name, but getting the middle initial right was just blind luck.

In any case, people probably want Kloe in your party for the first part of Chapter 9 for a minor bit of special dialogue.

Man in Chapter 9, the game is really just dumping last-minute party members on you. It kinda sucks not being able to use them all. Sure, I can always save before the bosses and run all the way back with new guys, but that seems like it might be too tedious to do.

As long as you regularly upgrade your weapons, you should generally be doing reasonable damage on normal difficulty. Yes, arts usually do more damage, but arts cost EP and attacks are free.

Of course, Schera, Kloe, and Tita are pretty bad damage-dealers, and some enemies are resistant to physicals. Time magic's benefit is that nothing resists it, but the other side of the coin is that nothing takes extra damage from it either.

That would explain it, then, as Kloe only has 7829 HP (and is level 81). Estelle is at 91, Agate is at 84. (I'm so high with Estelle because I cleared out an entire group of Shining) Poms and everyone got 9999 XP.)

You probably should play it for yourself. The LP was great, but a lot of the game's dialogue and text has since been changed and updated, in many cases made clearer for the Steam version. Additionally, Cake Attack was cutting out all the incidental NPC dialogue because that would kill the pacing of the LP, but there is a lot of nice world-building in there.

Getting a handle on the gameplay isn't quite so necessary since the Bracer Notebook acts like an in-game manual and explains a lot, but getting a feel for FC's combat system could help since SC is distinctly harder than FC even on Normal. SC is definitely meant for people who played FC already.

(And even if you for some reason don't want to play FC, I assume that you'd at least re-read the LP before jumping into SC because if you last read it a couple years ago you'll probably have forgotten a lot.)

I made it to Chapter 7 in my Sky SC re-play (normal difficulty). This time, I was able to get the Quartz together in Chapter 5 to let me cast Silver Thorn. I wanted to see how that would work in the winning-optional fight in Chapter 6. Short answer: :laffo:

I equipped Estelle with all the best caster gear. Her first turn I used Clock up EX on herself. She'd taken a huge beating by the time her second turn came up, so I burned a Tearal Balm. By the time her third turn came up, all the enemies had nicely bunched up around her so I could get them all with Silver Thorn. It confused all of them, and they beat the hell out of each other. A second Silver Thorn finished them off. That was the easiest that fight has ever been.

Thanks. Unfortunately I don't have quite enough quartz to equip two parties, so I'll need to hunt down Aries Pots and Slime Lumps before I continue.

I'm halfway through Chapter 6 of Trails in the Sky the Third, just touched the Carnelia monument. I am about to go into the Leiston segment. What's the party configuration I should prepare before each miniboss? I am guessing that I'll be fighting Kanone, Cid, Morgan, and Cassius in that order. Obviously deciding who to take for the last one is easy, but for the others, I'm thinking:
Kanone - Kloe, Schera
Cid - Tita, Agate
Morgan - Schera, Estelle
Cassius - Estelle, Joshua

Are those the best configurations for unique, character-specific dialogue?

I recommend taking Agate for the last fight, because he comments on wishing he'd gone if you don't take him. I never got to see what happens if you do.

I'll keep a save beforehand, because I think Really Pants is right and there's probably unique dialogue for everyone.

EDIT: Ah ha ha, just got "Sidetracked Chest Tracker". They tried to trick me with the last one, but I'm way too experienced at "going the wrong way first".

And darn, I guessed the order wrong. In that case, it's almost certainly going to be Cid, Morgan, Amalthea, Cassius.

Okay, TitS/3rd Chapter 6, third guardian defeated. That was a satisfying fight. No gimmicks. No adds. No status effects (either for or against). Just a whole lot of HP to chew through and possibly the strongest opponent in the series. I spent a Zeram Capsule and later a Celestial Balm on Richard, but otherwise I was able to hold my ground. Although the fact that he got a hell of a lot faster towards the end was a nasty surprise. I used all my S-Crafts, and a couple extra to push me over the top.

The rewards of Emblem, and Super Gladiator Belt and Headband were fantastic too.

Regarding one of the Leiston bosses: Renne has special dialogue for Kanone, seeing that she was the one who manipulated her into that tea party stuff during the last game's Grancel chapter. So for Kanone, I'd pick Renne and Julia.

I went back and did this, although I kept my save. I also did the Morgan fight twice, once with Julia and Kloe and once with Estelle and Joshua, just for the post-battle dialogue.

Just one more monument left. I was not expecting the Black Knight to be the guardian at the end, I thought that would be the boss in the villa. Which makes me wonder who actually is there. I was also not expecting Joshua to be the mandatory character, I thought it would be Renne. Hmm. I guess I'll take and Olivier, and Kloe for the first one, Renne for all the others, and Zin, Schera, Estelle and Agate for the others in that order.

Trails in The Sky The Third - Just finished Chapter 7. That was pretty amazing. But there's a big flashing "point of no return sign", and I still have no idea where the "fight 300+ battles without retreating" reward is, nor do I know where Star Door 15 is. Should I?

Great, thanks. I put on the Cloak Quartz and walked down there (I'll fight later when I feel like it). I didn't know about the "fight 300 battles without retreating" thing at first, but since I hadn't retreated after learning about it, I had no problems continuing anyway. I am guessing the reward for retreating 300 times is probably the Swiftness Quartz, which turns all battles into advantage battles?

I have enough party members for 4 complete parties, so I am guessing that getting all my party members up to level 135 or so would be a smart plan.

whats the missables list for TITS FC. never got around to playing it much despite buying it multiple times

I know about how sidequest timers and junk work but if theres like a book list/things like that/hidden quest (if thats a FC thing) list id appreciate it

Okay.

I'm going to omit most instances where you don't get bonus BP for blowing a choice because those are generally really obvious that you've screwed up. Just save often, for the love of god. Makes lots of saves. I'm also going to omit getting all treasure chests (twice) and Liberl news editions and recipes. All recipes are available from shops in FC. Check the Bracer Guild board after each main plot advancement and do all sidequests marked Short immediately. Take extra care to check the board when the plot is sending you to another town. In FC I believe that you can actually do all sidequests the instant they become available without missing anything.

There are two main things to worry about : quests unlisted on the Bracer guild boards, and chapters of the Carnelia book series.

What - When - Where/Who

Prologue

Carnelia #1 - After passing the Bracer Exam - Talk to Rhett
Bonus AP - Main Quest Perzel - Engage the monsters from behind the first time, don't let them run off.
Missable Chest - After the Perzel Farm quest - A sidequest sends you to Mistwald. Get the Hide Jumpsuit from a chest while you're there.

Chapter 1

Carnelia #2 - Verte Bridge - Talk to the patrolling guard.
Carnelia #3 - Haken Gate - Talk to the Erebonian merchant after the soldier summons you but before you meet with the general
Time-Limited Quest: Ravennue Village - Kill the monster from the guild quest sometime between reaching Bose and before talking to the reporter.
Hidden Quest: After returning from Haken - Go to Amberl Tower, along the New Ansel Path.
Time-Limited Quest: Bose Hotel - Escort the merchant. This quest is only available a short time.
Carnelia #4 - Bose Market - talk to the bookseller
Hidden Quest: After the lakeshore - Examine a vaccuum cleaner in a side room. Required for a quest later.

Chapter 2
Time-Limited Quest: Bose South Block - Return the Jeweled Ring to the woman.
Hidden Quest: Haken Gate - Hand over the black book from the vaccuum cleaner to a soldier in the dungeon.
Hidden Quest: Manoria Byroad - At the fork, head to the lighthouse.
Bonus AP: After leaving the orphanage, before entering Ruan - Check an alcove along the shore and rescue the trapped person.
Bonus AP: Orbment Factory Quest - Talk to the bartender at Lavalanter(sic) after accepting the Maintenance Delivery quest. Make sure to have a Salted Anchovy in your inventory as well.
Hidden Quest: Jenis Royal Academy after Joshua is out of your party, but BEFORE going to see the Dean - Talk to Janitor Parkes.
Hidden Quest: Jenis Royal Academy after Joshua is out of your party, but BEFORE going to see the Dean - Talk to Logic in the Material Archives Room.
Hidden Quest: Jenis Royal Academy after Joshua is out of your party, but BEFORE going to see the Dean - Talk to Mickey at the Old Schoolhouse.
Carnelia #5 - After the play - Go to Ruan and talk to the girl on the bridge.

Chapter 3
Carnelia #6 - Jenis Royal Academy - Talk to Purity in the Material Archives Room.
Bonus AP - Product Testing Quest - Visit Sanktheim Gate, Leiston Fortress, Wolf Fort and Air Letten, but NOT Elmo for bonus AP. (Visiting Elmo advances the plot.)
Hidden Quest (Part 1) - Wolf Fort - Talk to Brahm.
Bonus AP (Part 2) - Zeiss - Buy the Woolly Knit Hat as the gift for Faye.
Bonus AP - Central Factory after returning from Elmo - Defuse all 5 smoke bombs before checking the 3F workshop and visiting the 5th floor.
Carnelia #7 - Wolf Fort - Talk to Bruno
Main Quest Bonus AP - After Carnelia Tower - Avoid fighting any battles in the main quest mission.

Chapter 4
Carnelia #8 - After the landing port - Go to Air-Letten and talk to the man at the inn.
Carnelia #9 - After passing through Sankheim Gate - Go to the Gurune Gate and talk to the man all the way south along the wall.
Carnelia #10 - After your meeting at Liberl News - Go to the landing port and talk to the man hiding on the Arseille.
Bonus BP - Don't get caught once by the patrols.
Carnelia #Finale - After the Banquet - Grancel East Block - Talk to the man on the south stairs outside Edel's, and wait for the purple-haired girl to go by.
Talk to both, and wait for her to come by again.
Talk to both, and follow her around the building until she stops to think.
Talk to her again, and wait for her to walk by him.
Talk to him for Carnelia Finale.

Ultimate Weapon - After the Banquet, Grancel West Block - Trade in all 11 volumes of Carnelia to the cafe owner.
Bonus BP (Part 1) - After the Banquet - You should probably make sure to get at least 3 copies of Action 3 and two copies of Cast 2.
Bonus BP (Part 2) - Grancel Sewers North Block - Before waiting for noon, strip all quartz and accessories from Joshua and co.
Bonus BP (Part 3) - Erbe Senic Route - Equip Estelle's group with Quartz so that all of them can cast Clock Up EX, and accessories so that all are protected from Confuse, and your two casters are protected from Mute.
Bonus BP - After landing on the garden terrace - Don't KO the Duke for bonus BP.
Bonus BP (Part 4) - Queen's Chambers - Defeat Lorence for bonus BP. Good Luck.
Hidden Quest - During the Birthday celebration - Check the Bracer Guild board.

Just finished Sky the Third, Star Door 15.

...:stare: That was kinda brutal. This series is generally upbeat and remarkably bloodless, so it's all the more unsettling when some of the darker stuff seeps in. And that was very dark.
