Title: Ghost Sweeper Mikami: Joreishi wa Nice Body (Ghost Sweeper Mikami graces the exorcism with her nice body.) Genre: Platformer Release Dates: September 23, 1993 (JPN) Platform: Super Famicom Developer: Natsume-Atari Publisher: Banalex Status: Ongoing Gameplay: "Ghost Sweeper Mikami: Joreishi wa Nice Body" is a side scrolling platformer based on the anime and manga Ghost Sweeper Mikami. You play as Mikami, an exorcist or ghost sweeper, that encounters and fight ghosts in 7 different stages referred to as reports, that correlates to the anime and manga that it is based off of. The gameplay itself is similar to super castlevania, where you are free to control your sweeper staff to attack in multiple directions and use it as a hook to climb onto platforms. The game includes an array of upgrades that you lose after one hit and limited use screen kill attack to traverse levels with some ease. Each stage attempts to diversify by adding a stage mechanic or hazard and set of enemies to keep it from being stale. The game is short with a simple plot, but has very solid game play mechanics and enjoyable to play. Story: One afternoon at Mikami GS Agency, a package was delivered to our heroes which ended up being a statue of a goddess. The statue in question is said to grant any wish if all 7 gems are collected. So much like the anime "Dragon Ball", the group heads off in reports to collect seven gems from powerful ghosts to get a wish. Background on the LP: The focus of this project consists of explaining game mechanics and strategies, while expanding upon its plot with translations and outside source material. The game is heavily based on the comic series, and as such, the project is meant to emphasize this in a way that helps with understanding the story, expanding upon it using material from the anime and manga. In addition, trivia regarding culture, key characters, or enemies will be brought up to connect the game to the real world influences they're based on. During each update, I will emphasize on specific character(s) which will includes a bio, their connection to the game, and story within the series. The character portrayed will be relevant to the stage or has a story that merits interest to the main plot of the series. Art assets: A concept I do in making each project is use art assets in conjunction with gameplay footage. In this project, I use the anime and manga of Ghost Sweeper Mikami as a source material repurposed for the project. By using art assets, it helps viewers easy access to my other work or related material, understand any concept of the game that itself does not show, visually draw an image not available in game, and add appeal. For this project, I use manga panels that are reworked by myself and screen shots from the anime. Anime and Manga: Ghost Sweeper Mikami, is a Japanese comedic horror manga written and illustrated by Takashi Shiina. The premise is that the overdevelopment of Japan has caused a surge of spirits to appear who were forced out of their homes who now cause problems to humans. As a result, a new profession emerged which are Ghost Sweepers who are exorcists for hire. The story revolves around Reiko Mikami, an avaricious woman that started an agency to make herself rich by taking contracts from wealthy clients. In the entire series she and her two assistants, Tadao Yokoshima, an exorcists trainee, and Okinu Himuro, a spirit, go on reports involving strange phenomenons while running into comical characters including ghosts, demons, and gods. All leading up to each character's development and the explanation as to why there is a significant rise in paranormal activity. About the Author: Takashi Shiina's is manga artist who created a few manga over the years. He started off by writing a collection of one shot manga collectively called "Shiina_Department_Store". Among the one shots, Ghost Sweeper Mikami was picked up by the Weekly Shōnen Sunday that ran through 39 volumes of super natural nonsense that the creator also blatantly included characters from his other works. The method Takashi Shiina's does in creating his works, is to set the story is a world in the present time and emphasizes a concept that has cultural significance in many parts of the world. In his most recent work, Zettai Karen Children, the emphasis is on ESP and for Ghost Sweeper Mikami, it is exorcism. By introducing different cultures take on a concept, he becomes creative in making adventures the main characters are involved in. Although the creator is known to slip in anime references, cats, and his extensive knowledge of model vehicles. So if you need some ghost busting and can afford it, just call Mikami GS Agency, paranormalist at large. Spooks spooked, goblins gobbled, UFOs K.O.ed, aliens alienated, vampires evaporated, and monsters remonstrated. Cast: (It will be updated as the project progresses.) No porn games on the subforu...wait this isn't a porn game? Well then proceed on! Nice start, I enjoyed the trivia. One thing bugs me though is trying to figure out context on how bad 250 yen an hour would be at the time, in relation to something like the big mac index

Faylone posted:No porn games on the subforu...wait this isn't a porn game? Well then proceed on! According to a financials report that I found that listed historical exchange rates, $1 USD on September 23, 1993 would buy approximately 108.85 Yen (JPY). This would mean that Tadao would be making approximately $2.30/hr. As opposed to the U.S. Department of Labor that set the minimum wage in 1991 at $4.25 (unless you were under the age of 20, in which case they could pay 80% of that or $3.35/hr, but that provision expired in 1993, so that may or may not apply here.) Wage rates would not go up again until 1996. The price of a Big Mac in America in 1993 was $2.28. In Japan, it was 391 yen. So, in conclusion, I would say that, while Tadao would certainly have a hard time making ends meet, he's probably not completely destitute, especially since the Japanese have much longer work weeks than Americans do, generally. (approx. a 46 hour work week in Japan vs. the traditional 40 in America). He's just really, REALLY poor.

Well this LP is a pleasant surprise. Ghost Sweeper Mikami's such a great little show; will the other characters ever show up in gameplay, or are they cutscene-only? Also asking if Dr. Chaos and Maria show up, but if that's a spoiler I'll mark it just in case.

I will bring up the cast in bits since a lot of the stages are mishmashes of different chapters of the manga.

I'm not sure if you've only recently (well, fairly recently) picked this one back up or just had to reupload stuff to Youtube, but it does help to give every new episode a new post in the thread. I found this in my backlog and was ready to write it off after one episode, but you've really taken advantage of the power of widescreen to pull out some nice running commentary.

Thanks for looking. I appreciate it when someone watches my stuff. To answer your question, I have been on and off with the project due to real life, switching computers, and was getting stuff translated. The last video still has a few things left before it is done, but hopefully I wont be derailed for too much longer. On a side note, I was also working extra hard to get the funds for another project I want to do once this si done.

I think he's trying to say that you might get some more traffic if you actually made new posts for your updates rather than just updating your OP. Because otherwise it looks like you haven't posted anything in this thread since Oct. of 2015.

Yes, bumping this thread with new posts for updates would be great so that way more people can find this nice lp. I'm really enjoying seeing an lp about this game from someone who's taken the effort to really show off this pretty neat series. I've never seen Ghost Sweeper Mikami before, but it seems like it'd be a pretty good 90s Anime to watch.
