20th Century Boys was pretty well written I guess. I mean, at least on par with any of the "good" western comics people talk about. Eureka 7 was well written but anime fans don't really seem to get it in the same way that western comics fans don't really seem to get Scott Pilgrim (in the sense that SP the comic is basically about why obsessive nerdom is terrible and why fandom is bad) since E7 is mostly about growing up and dealing with how in the real world humans act stupidly and are self centered, and how people you like betray you. Anime fans have a serious problem growing up and acting like adults so that part of E7 is pretty much entirely lost on them and they tend to just focus on the "Woooooh surfing robots!!!" part of it, which honestly isn't terribly important to the story it's trying to tell.

E7 would have been better if the main character lost his voice in the first episode and never spoke again.
