i met a middle aged german dude at a hostel in uruguay about 3 weeks ago and he told me two cool things about the city of Yellowknife which is the capital of the Northwest Territories: one is that it is a decent sized city in the middle of nowhere that just kind of appears after you drive hours in the forest, and the second is that Japanese tourism is one of their biggest industries because there is a Japanese belief that children conceived under the aurora borealis will turn out to be gifted so a lot of Japanese people go there and gently caress outside lol

What do people do up there? Like... do the towns basically consist of a couple diners, a few bars, a few dudes who know how to do basic HVAC, electrical, plumbing, a grocery store, a hardware store, a school, and that's about it?
