I bought a kit from China and it just turned up un-broken, on time and with everything needed, including good instructions (in Chinese, but for best maybe). Maybe century of China is starting after all. For Feng Shui chat, my partner is HK Chinese and the first thing he did when he moved into his dorm room in 1st year college was to pull it all out and rearrange it for better feng shui. Really he just made the room annoying as poo poo to navigate. No ghosts wanted to enter because they will trip over his desk, job done.

Something interesting happened yesterday. My father in law is out biking, enjoying the nice weather when a First Nations cop car pulls up beside him. He's about 4km from the nearest reserve, but for some reason they thought they should do some policing right there and then. They pull over, ask him some questions, realize he doesn't speak English, and then decide let's take him in to the station". So they throw his bike in the ditch, and take him to the police station on the Native Reserve. A guy I know who works for that dept (one of two white guys on the force) comes in, sees him and says, "what's Blistex's father in law doing here?" They tell him, "oh we just saw him and decided to abduct him and now we are detaining him until we can figure out what to do." He tells them that what they are doing is technically illegal, loads up Google translate, apologizes and takes him back to his bike. Being just another immigrant isn't as powerful a claim as being there from time immemorial. Depending on the person (what they know, what their agenda is etc...)you can have people from groups that pretty clearly had documented migration west (for example, because of the fur trade) claiming their group has been using the land they are near forever. That said, FN peoples and the various bands have a variety of takes on things like most other people.

I talked about how horses had yet to be domesticated yet, and it would be thousands of years before the Spanish re-introduced them. We were having a really good discussion and the students were learning a lot. One rear end in a top hat kid (with about 5% attendance) ran to the principal to tell him I was being racists and saying their beliefs were stupid. The principal used it as an excuse to give me the required written reprimand that all white teachers need on their records so dismissing/firing is easier in the future. . . which they totally did. Enough FN talk, we're here to discuss their ancestors. . . The Chinese!
