MLB Media or whatever they're called designed the new site, so if you're hoping for a better Gamecenter maybe lower those expectations a bit.

Would Scott be the last "pure enforcer" in the NHL? I mean there's obviously still a lot of goons and punchy types out there, but most of them can at least make some kind of claim to being an effective hockey player. I can't think of another player out there employed solely for his ability to make faces bleed.

Boll, maybe? Mcleod doesn't seem to do anything but try to injure people, but he actually scores okay for a 4th liner. Aphrodite fucked around with this message at 15:48 on Feb 1, 2016 |

Yeah Boll and Rinaldo definitely count. Ryan White's a shithead but he's shockingly good at faceoffs so that's.... something? E: I think he's 2nd on the team only to Giroux. poo poo is weird.

Rinaldo and White are enforcers, they're cheap shot artists. In theory an enforcer is what you have to prevent a Rinaldo or White.

Then export as a gif.

I hate to defend Rinaldo in any way, but he is not an enforcer. He is capable of playing 8-10 minutes a night without fighting or taking penalties, which is actually what happens most nights. Rinaldo is an average 4th liner who will occasionally cheap shot people because he's a dumb piece of poo poo.

On new NHL site chat: Infinite scrolling is the Cool New Thing all the hot web design schools are teaching now. Because reasons. I understand that so far as Marketing is concerned desktops are a thing of the past and everything is designed for smartphones now. It's just that, uh, NHL.com's new design is terrible on a smartphone too. ESPN's current design that they brought out last year is even worse, it's the single worst design I have ever seen on a major website and it's not close. Uniforms are getting worse too and my theory is that it's all connected and we're getting into a Bad Design trend that's going to take some years to run its course.

Having jersey templates probably doesn't help either. I mean, is a pro sport league really being confined to a god drat template? I can understand doing that for peewee jersey orders, but c'mon, you can't loving do something a bit different for pro sports teams? I want more fuckin' teals, purples, greens, hell, maybe even some fuckin' brown? I hate the Isles thirds.

The main reason I don't like the new NHL website is that there's no background. It's just blank space and it's jarring to me. The actual functionality is fine. I don't ever use the website on mobile (I use theScore's app for sports stuff) so it's a non-factor.

It's true that uniforms have gotten either bland (Isles thirds) or childish and crazy (the new Arizona Diamondbacks uniforms) but in web design it's all about trying to cram too much information into too little space in a non-uniform helter skelter way that makes your eyes cross, and despite that somehow still making it way too goddamn difficult to find any particular thing you're looking for.

Very good game. He looked really nervous with the puck. He was decent when the mission was clear: get it on net or skate in a straight line towards the net. But when it required reading the play or moving the puck to a teammate under pressure he screwed up a lot. Maybe it was just nerves, his linemates made sure to pass him the puck at every opportunity and he probably got more touches last night than he has in his entire career, and had to do it against the NHL's best players. Or maybe he's just not that good. Either way it was super interesting to watch him skate with the NHL's best, he may not be the most agile but he did make some smart plays and I wonder what kind of player he could have been if he'd gotten more opportunity.. it's probably not easy to get better at the game when you're riding pine 95% of the time.

So on the way to work today I was listening to NHL radio on SiriusXM. They had Pierre Mcguire on (like they always do on Mondays.) and he said there was some talk going around after the ASG about the possibility of John Scott getting called up so the Canadiens can ride the wave of emotion. So this could be interesting to watch.

Scott almost surely isn't good enough to be a regular NHL player, but he's still really good at hockey and will probably be fine (skill-wise) in the AHL assuming he decides to resume his career there. As many people have already said, the NHL basically lucked into having the best all star weekend ever despite themselves, and will almost surely screw it up next year when they put a mandatory 4 enforcers/grinders on the teams, completely missing the point of what made it so successful this year. Thufir posted:You guys, I found the redeeming thing about the NHL site: their 404 page is random gifs of hockey screwups https://www.nhl.com/scores/blart This is really good, and honestly the new website doesn't bother me much but their stats page is terrible.
