It should really depend on how foul prone the guy is in general and how badly sitting him for a long stretch would torpedo the team, auto benching everyone with two fouls is incredibly dumb.

Well, Michigan got thrown in a dumpster by Indiana. Worst shooting night of the season combined with some horrible defensive breakdowns led to a sweet 28-0 run for Indiana. But hey, Michigan won the rest of the game by 13!

I don't put this on Prohm, this was like a lot of games under Hoiberg too. I think we've just seen that what ISU did last year, and what they're doing this year is their ceiling. They can be really good at times, but can also just fall apart. The fast pace of the offense is a double-edged sword. When they run it well, it's fantastic, but the players often make silly mistakes by just trying to get it down the floor as fast as possible. There were several breakaways that became turnovers due to bad outlet passes.

True true. They just need more depth

And they play a ton of guys, which is the exact opposite of ISU. They run you around like crazy, and every single ISU starter played at least 30 minutes, with Morris playing 39, and Nader playing 38. Meanwhile, the most minutes a WVU player got was 31. The loss of Naz Long early in the season has hurt ISU way more than I anticipated.

The only thing you can maybe blame Prohm for is not signing some extra depth last offseason, but that was pretty hard to do anyway given the timeline of his hire.

People are finally starting to realize that Hoiberg kind of screwed us over on that by leaving so late.

Prohm certainly doesn't seem like a Bruce Weber type to me, in that he seems halfway decent. The only area I would hit on them would be defense, but I don't remember the last regime being great defensive minds either. I'd rate it as a pretty solid hire so far.

The defense is bad, but less bad than last year. ISU was ranked like 350th in scoring defense last year, and is around 180th right now. Actual points per game are up, but that's because all scoring is up this year. ISU has one good defender, Matt Thomas, everyone else is average to bad (Niang).

I don't really remember Prohm picking up any significant recruits last year, but he was working on a very short clock. Other new hire coaches started two to three months before he did, and I don't think Hoiberg put a lot of emphasis on recruiting because he knew in like February that he was going to the Bulls. We need to give him a lot of time because ISU will be bad next year, and he will probably need to build the program back up.

I wonder if this game will quiet down the "Fire Crean" people in the fanbase a little. He actually called a timeout to stop the early Michigan run, made smart adjustments, and let IU rattle off a great run. Some of that was Michigan's terrible shooting, of course.

And, if you combine the smaller runs on either side of the big 28-0, I believe it comes out to 44-9.

Florida was ranked in the 300's in FT shooting - one of the worst in all of college basketball.

Now we've gone like 82% from the stripe in the last 4 games.

K-State fans are going bezerk because at the end of the game Brannen Greene lazily dunked the ball when it was already won.

That's not a good look but it's better than this one.

You left out the best parts, the Bill Self quotes.

quote:

Calling it "totally classless," Self also addressed Greene's dunk in a postgame radio interview and guaranteed "it will never happen again."

"Brannen Greene, we've put up with him doing some stuff in the past, but that was probably the biggest dick move I've ever had a player do during a game," Self said in the radio interview, according to the Topeka newspaper. "To dunk the ball like that when the other team -- even their players are going, 'How disrespectful to the game.'

"It certainly showed unbelievably poor sportsmanship."

IUPUI/Denver ended up cooler than I expected. IUPUI was up 40-25 with 16:08 to go, but Denver proceeded to outscore them 28-11 to end the game and won 53-51. I mean, it was kind of a lovely level of play, but cool comeback in front of like 500 people in the crowd.

http://www.courier-journal.com/story/sports/college/louisville/2016/02/05/sources-u-l-imposing-postseason-hoops-ban/79878760/

quote:

The University of Louisville plans to announce on Friday a self-imposed postseason ban on its men’s basketball team for the 2015-16 campaign, multiple sources told The Courier-Journal.

The decision comes as the NCAA continues to investigate a woman’s claims that she and other escorts were paid thousands of dollars and given game tickets in exchange for dancing for and having sex with U of L basketball players and recruits from 2010-14.

It is a significant blow to coach Rick Pitino and his current team, which has an 18-4 record and is in second place in the competitive Atlantic Coast Conference.

Louisville, ranked 19th in the latest AP poll, had high hopes for deep runs in the ACC and NCAA tournaments, and has a team built around two graduate transfers, Damion Lee and Trey Lewis, who came to U of L to play their final college season and pursue their first NCAA tournament bid.
