I don't think it was a foregone conclusion that Newcastle would come straight back up. They had a lot of shite in the squad who didn't seem to care at all and there was a real worry that they could be hosed. The Championship is such a tight division that it's very difficult to predict, especially since you only have to finish in the top 6 to get a playoff spot and a late surge with a bit of luck could see any mid table team in contention. I don't disagree that Villa are awful, but when you don't know who will be managing them, playing for them or even owning them next year, knowing how they will do is impossible.
