Hey, look at that weird dog! Welcome to Cubivore. It's a weird dog eat weird dog world out there, and we're here to eat them all. Well, at least, I am. I'm playing. With me are Faerie Fortune and Liquidypoo, gigglers extraordinaire. They are entirely new to the world of Cubivore. I feel like Cubivore is a game best experienced. I could go into the mechanics and story, and talk about the ontological implications of a continual consciousness, but really we're just here for the weird dogs and you should be too. It turns out I remember a lot less of this game than I thought I did, so it will at times be a learning experience for us all.

This is wonderful and you are wonderful too.quote:Are you basically supposed to plan out later levels' fauna and plan for an order of devouring so you can optimize colour saturation (dark meat) and limb orientations to take into next levels and for your offspring? Without going into it too much, yes. There are a few curveballs in there, and I'll get caught by surprise once or twice because I don't remember as much as I thought. Also, gameplay optimization, despite showing off as many weird dogs as possible, isn't nearly as fun as winging it. I'll largely leave my dumb mistakes in, though I'll edit or fast-forward slowtime.

I'm excited for more weird dogs! We get a little off-target on the weird dog front, but I'm sure we can right the ship. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2rjCGjhY_ss

What a beary nice form we've discovered! Exciting though it may be, remembering the grizzly fate of our predecessor leaves us feeling a bit bi-polar. Let us paws a moment and reflect. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sZtibqoJQz0

Zanzibar Ham posted:A Cubivore tip- you can release a cube's limb. This is useful if the prey has a mix of pale and dark so you can pounce again and hopefully catch the dark limb next time. I did totally forget you can let go! I haven't had much need for it except the once, but later on if I'm trying for new mutations I'll probably need to be reminded I can do that. There are, after all, some things we haven't seen yet and some of them will require a certain amount of planning. We'll see how "carefully selecting our prey" looks or I'll forget and eat everything indiscriminately.

GlyphGryph posted:He's pretty bad at the combat (as are all LPers at every game ever, based on my experience), and in this case specifically opted not to eat the wildabugs and then go get a better form like he was supposed to. It normally isn't nearly that time consuming, because you aren't normally supposed to fight him at that point. But yes. You can use positioning and attack when the enemies are not blocking to make fights happen faster. I may or may not ever figure that out in practice.

FPzero posted:So aside from just trying out new mutations for variety, is there a gameplay reason to mutate a lot and often? Like, you had the GrayDark Scentaur form which destroyed the Parental Guardian Beast but you gave it up as soon as you hit the new area for a Pale form. I did notice that the game mentioned how many mutations you'd undergone when mating; does it affect how many females are attracted? Honestly it's kind of difficult to get into an unwinnable situation because with enough patience you can whittle down anything you can actually damage. So it doesn't hurt that much to go to a less powerful form.

Demerine posted:Though Fae did get it in one: stop drinking or stop talking. Clash combinations are for all but Grey really simple, actually. What the game told us in rainbow heaven is generally true, and the order of rage colors doesn't really matter. For Grey, order matters, but Grey clash mutations are basically the best of their tiers. I may or may not get any, because I think it might be a bit tedious to diet plan and regrab and all that jazz to get the powerful mutations I'll just swap out of immediately to increment my mutation counter by one. It seems like ebay prices are insane for this little gem of a game, and they probably are, but I can tell you I have thoroughly enjoyed just about every part of playing the game and making this goofy series of videos so far. That might make it worth it. Fortunately I already had a copy, haha.

Maybe what I actually meant was this space. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7QW9-QCjlkI I'm not really planning on 100% because I don't wanna. I'll show off what I end up doing, and I've been sort of trying to get as many weird dogs as possible but I'm not gonna sweat it if I don't manage to get'em all.

It's not specifically that there's any particular excuse or anything, especially this close to the end of the game. But as of today I'm a little older, perhaps a bit wiser, and certainly one video closer to trying to figure out what Liquidypoo will convince me to forget about doing next. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L96uRBxE-9U
