This game is so pretty.

I kinda wish they localized the voices like they did for Odin Sphere though, especially if they actually translated the sword names.

I dunno, one of the later bosses here kinda shows where Vanillaware's mind was at for some of that stuff.

See also Velvet from Odin Sphere.

Every artist knows there's no shame in enjoying some titillation now and then. Appreciation of the human body in all it's forms combined with artistic exaggeration and all that.

Regarding Torahime's design, pay attention to what she (and Kisuke) say. She's leading ghost samurai to war against the shogun, atop a horse.

Reminds me an awful lot of Three Kingdoms Cao Cao, which means to me that her design is basically 'Archer Priestess who has donned the guise of a Samurai Warlord.' And that helmet is 110% Samurai Warlord, only missing the face mask.

It is exaggerated, but it ties in to the armored waist and skirt (of which the skirt is not standard Archer Priestess accoutrement.)

Regarding sword durability:
Looks like all your swords got the increased durability regen, it's just that naturally the first sword that breaks has already done some recharging so it recharges first.

Also while Sayo could indeed be a boss fight for both Momohime and Kisuke (for the same reasons actually) Ippondatara wouldn't really cut it as a Kisuke boss. Why would he spare the pig spirit after it tried to kill him? It' doesn't make sense for him.
Regarding the reasoning Sayo attacks Kisuke and calls him possessed by a malicious and hateful spirit: don't forget you're carrying around Muramasa blades, which are forged out of souls which fuel fires of hate (not to mention somehow carting the spirit of Muramasa around himself.) That certainly fits the bill :v:

However that does make Sayo inconsistent regarding the two of them. There's only two reasons I can think of (ignoring the Muramasa thing entirely) that explain her actions and allow her to remain consistent in the way she treats both protagonists:
1. Jinkuro knows how to hide from most Buddhist priests considering he's done this soul transfer thing a lot while Oburo straight up fused himself with Kisuke and quasi-removed himself from existence.
2. Sayo's statement is colored by her assumptions. Heck, Oboro straight up says that Soul Fusion is Demonic and a big no-no to Buddhism, which would make Kisuke's spirit evil in her eyes. Considering his brusque and rude mannerisms that could be construed as malice/hate, since heck, he's already evil might as well pile on the pejoratives.
Supplementary there's also the whole thing about the Oboro style being accursed by Sayo's account. That could have something to do with it too.

It's a pet annoyance of mine when people forget that characters in fiction can be allowed to be characters and thus do not have to speak/convey facts with 100% accuracy.

It's common to just flip a sprite to avoid having to make two different ones (one facing left while the other faces right). However, this creates problems for asymmetrical characters like our dead tiger princess as details get flipped around every time the character changes direction.

Actually one of the neat things that this game has been doing has been showing the characters changing their details naturally when they flip. Torahime moves her bow from one hand to the other (which also disguises her flip) Momohime had that interstitial frame showing her doing the same with her sword, Kisuke does it too, so there's a bit more effort than just flipping the sprites and calling it a day (even though they do so copiously, IE Hot Springs Momohime.)

It's kind of a limitation of the format, but I still think the changing-hands details are neat and make things less confusing.

Changing which hand is holding your weapon I understand but having gloves, sleeves, and the like change sides for no reason a little less acceptable since it's still lazy.
There's not a whole lot you can do about that, since animating/having opposite asymmetrical sprites complete with animations would take time. It's realism sacrificed for gameplay.

Hence why it's more a limitation than lazyness in this case because they did put in the effort to do the hand-swapping. That's significantly more effort than others have put in (and something of a hallmark of their 2d stuff.)

Finally got around to watching the Odin Sphere Leifraser Stream and dang Highwang, you need to learn when to disengage. Not just the 'hop back a bit, wait a second and then dive right in' style, but the 'you just summoned a huge pillar of fire that is raining boulders of bile and hate, we're fighting way over here now' style.

It also makes me regret not owning a current playstation system.

On Muramasa, I liked the storybook style that Heaven showed off though the overlay did look more like sliding doors to me (which would fit in with the door to heaven.)
It also makes sense that Jinkuro would give Momohime's body back after failing to get into heaven and then immediately go back on that when another way presents itself: he had run out of ideas for them getting out of the whole 'two souls one body' predicament in a way that benefits them both.

Appearances can be deceptive and doofyness is in the eye of the goof. I found Raijin far more doofy than the Dragon God, and Fujin is prime doof but is the self-admitted more destructive of the pair. Dragon God's only real weirdness is in his eyes when they're open (which I put down to him being mad out of his head until you beat it out of him) but everything else follows Eastern Dragon style.

Highwang posted:

Yeah, that's me in general. Plus I was still wrapping my head around the game's mindset of "Use items rear end in a top hat. We put them in for a reason"

Also honestly, I think Gwendolyn has it rough against the phoenix rider. Everyone else has a great way of dealing with them except Gwen, mainly because Freeze is a bit of an awful mechanic. Velvet might have it worse off though since she's themed around fire and I'm pretty sure there are elemental resistances in this game.
That's the lesson Cornelius' epilogue in the original ingrains into your brain with dozens of oozes that he can only deal more than 1 damage to via offensive potions. Interesting to see if/how that changes with all the additions to the combat system.

Every character has things they need to not be hyper aggressive against because it's their Achilles heel, but they can beat through other means/a change in tactics. The only thing Gwndolyn can't really handle (AFAIK from the original game's style) is the projectiles/fire spirits that were being put out: her attacks are too slow to keep them at bay while hurting the boss, it's one or the other for her. Everything else was either you being too aggressive or Hard mode's increased stun resistance making it hard to juggle the rider in the first place.

If anything he was baiting Fudo into not punishing Momohime.

To be fair there are quite a few higher powers out there who would have done so without hesitation because they play for keeps and don't sweat the details.

Also Momohime's last hot spring was fitting more than just what Highwang said: Jinkuro has said he wished he had some Sake for quite a few of the dishes they ate. Apparently he finally got some.
