Airborne Viking posted:I'd like to give the benefit of the doubt and say that due to the state of emergency they're either used up or turned to ash. The fire has engulfed hospitals, fire halls (ironically), and other facilities/job sites. Not only has much of that PPE likely been destroyed, but they've also been at this for over two days. I'm not sure if any filter cartridges would last that long. Pfft. The gently caress is a fire hall? You dumb Canucks surely must realize that trying to isolate a fire inside a building will probably just lead to it burning down the hall around it.

Harrower posted:Not everyone in Ft. Mac is going to have any sort of safety training. For every rig pig with a dozen safety tickets there are a dozen people working in camp kitchens, at home depot, doing data entry in an office, or whatever with maybe first aid and some gas detection if they work in a warehouse that has some nitrogen tanks. That said its probably fair to say that Ft. Mac has a much higher incidence of people with a dozen safety tickets, and a career of working in dangerous and stressful situations that a city like Los Angeles probably doesn't. At least on a per capita basis. I'm sure Manhattan alone has 90000 people with a first aid certificate just because there is 10 million people and 10% with some sort of ticket doesn't seem unreasonable. I'd attribute the lack of fatalities to the fact that the authorities didn't really waffle on declaring a state of emergency and just went with evacuating the whole drat town when things started to look real bad, rather than waiting till things were actually real bad. if my hometown of minot ND is any indication, the tar sands attract the absolute dregs of society who have difficulty finding work back home. minot was a lovely small town to begin with, but now it is even worse

Didn't even occur to me that there would be speech over it. Aside from nobody having any homes, things appear to be moving pretty smoothly (I haven't heard otherwise but I haven't been really looking). Though I suppose it's hard to loot and riot in a fire. On that note, I wanna hit up the jewelry store and pawn shops with a shovel. There's gotta be treasure in there.
