I feel bad about talking about AIs replacing everyone for 3 pages straight in a Trump thread, so I made this one to talk about AIs. Computer programs are going to replace us all, some more quickly than others.

Next on the block is truck drivers I think. They wont be replaced entirely over night of course, first they will deskill the job by hiring minimum wage people to mind the automatic trucks. But they will be phased out gradually for full autos in time. several millions of people rely on driving trucks for their living, this is going to be a problem going forward. here is a youtube:

Artificial intelligence isn't actually possible

how do you figure? i mean brains exist, we have at least one example of a functioning intelligent system. at the very least we could approach the problem from a genetic engineering standpoint, and just grow specialized and engeneerd brains for specific tasks

gonna be a long time before people trust machines for healthcare, EMS, etc

that not true at all. diagnosticians and pharmacists have basically already been replaced by AIs. surgeons are about half way there

that's beside the point. humans are still employed in heaps (pharmacy is actually a growth employment industry, in fact), in part for exactly the reason i just stated.

it's not about the work behind the scenes, it's about the ignorant patient's perspective and illusions

its a death by a thousand cuts. people might like to have a human face to hand their pills to them, but you can be drat sure the company signing that pharmacists cheques is looking at ways to replace him. its not going to be a matter of one day replacing the pharmacy with a fancy vending machine, first it will just be reductions of staff and hiring of less skilled (cheaper) workers to fill what human roles exist.

a friend of mine teaches at a community college, and they are going through this very process. they have invented this concept of "hybrid courses", where a normal 3-class per week course is replaced by a 2-class a week course with "supplemental" online content. they haven't fired any teachers, but what they have done is allow the same number of teacher to take on more classes at once (meaning they don't have to hire anyone to increase their student rolls). the classes are shittier, but not quite lovely enough that people stop coming. Once they are used to this i have no doubt the "hybrid" classes will reduce in-class time further.

maybe mass human death, maybe full communism? it could go either way i suppose. of course even full communism would be a bandaid, if we ever make a computer thats actually smarter than a human we are finished as a species.

except it has been done, you just claim the larger scale is impossible

for reasons

yeah, no one is sayng that the auto-cars are going to replace everyone tomorrow. its a matter of incrementalism. Googles approach might not be 100% ready for full automation, but that doesn't means that 85% ready isn't going to cost some jobs (and deskill a lot more jobs).

automation isn't just a problem with replacing people. it allows previously skilled jobs to be done by unskilled (and easily replaced) workers, which drives down wages.

I remember when there were lots of $15-$20 an hour customer service phone bank type jobs in the Midwest, before those were all sent to India for pennies on the dollar

What's going to happen if human labor in less developed nations whose economy is dependent on it is replaced and those people all starve en mass? That's going to be a much worse situation worldwide than food stamps in Ohio

i dont think third world labor is going to be automated away very soon, its not expensive enough to bother replacing. technology is going to be used to convert as much first world labour into third world labour as possible though!

we dont need to invent maid robots if we can pay people in india to be our domestic servant via remote drone
