You're only really in trouble if your a stupid. In the beginning robots are going to take over the menial repetitive jobs, freeing you to spend your time improving the robots and training the AIs. I'm not sure how many taxi drivers and store clerks we can teach programming, but eh let's give it a try.

Extreme automation won't really work unless it's accompanied by a gradual shift towards socialism When robots are the only ones working, there won't be anyone left to pay for your products so you might as well give at least some of it away for free. A society with free basic food and education shouldn't be that hard to make work. Robots make good teachers, and there will be a ton of bored unemployed people. Give people a VR helmet as part of the basic package and maybe they'll even start plugging themselves into the matrix voluntarily!
