This is probably a stupid post but I figure what better forum to post in. I don't know if it's dumb or not but is there a good way to learn piano just to record ideas you have in your head down? Like a sketch pad? I don't ever want to be a master of any instrument, I just want to be able to kind of capture what's in my head so I can be reminded later and reproduce it in a way that's closer. What's the best way of going about this?

Get yourself a midi keyboard, since basic tracking software, and go that route. You don't need to worry about sound quality or anything like that. As far as playing the instrument, you should get some basic music theory down, be comfortable with a few scales, and be able to play since basic melodies with one hand smoothly. That will get you most if the way to what you want.
