We're back.

See how my cursor is over the sleep action and the little circle in the top left?

That's the toggle for whether you want to show the animations for that action. I only remembered this after I rested up for the week. Whoops.

Oh, and I don't think this is explained anywhere. But hey, now you know, if you're playing along.

We get some Science done. The rough stat needed to get a D at this point is 20. And we can get 8 F's in a loop before we get sent back.

We get some talks about the Culture Festival on Monday.

: Do they really? The only one I hear touting it is YOU!

: Bah, you're stuck up as always. Not everyone likes your prissy, girly ideas, Alice. I personally still like my idea.

: What's up, you two?

I still can't get over the idea of a Vegas-themed school festival. It's just so...

: That isn't CULTURE.

: Oh, you just have a smart answer to everything, don't you?

Rena just came in from the right. It's definitely not because taking a picture is easier than transcribing.

: It wouldn't just make ME happy. I think you're doubting the power of bunnies, Alice.

: ...Hiroshi?

: I could do a poll right now and I bet I could get a ton of people to think my idea's great!

: Pfft, all BOYS. Big deal!

: You two are really going at it.

: Should we go with my idea, the Vegas theme? Or should we go with Alice's theme?

: What was it again?

: *sigh* It was feudal Japan.

Sounds dull to me.

: The most boring idea EVER. But she just won't drop it.

: It is NOT.

: ...Huh? When did you get here?

: A bit ago...

: Hey there, Rena.

: Hey, Rena.

: What are you two yelling about?

We already made this joke like a year ago.

: Ha! Can't keep your cool, can you, Hiroshi?

: Grr...

: They are trying to decide on an idea for the culture festival project.

: Ooh! I have one. I have one!

: Oh? What is it, Rena?

: ...What?

: A haunted house! With ghosts and all that. We can design ghosts and monsters and put them on pulleys and work together to move them through places. It would be amazing.

: ...Er, Rena, that's... nice. But I think we'll pass.

: Aww, why? It's fun AND creative...

: ...

: Hiroshi, that was MEAN.

: I'm not going to delude her.

: It's not a bad idea... it's not. Lorde, whose idea do you want?

We were trying to hang out with Rena. Haven't made much progress there.

: Rena's haunted house.

: Really?

: You can't be serious.

: I think he is.

: Wow.

: WOW!

: Oh, ugh. Only men would like that.

: Ha, see?

: No! No haunted house!

: I will leave this to you guys, then.

Goon hasn't been using contractions. Makes him sound a bit like Kiku. Odd.

: Alright, Goon. We'll see you. Try to come up with something.

: Yeah, we may need a new idea with how terrible all of yours have been, Alice!

: What's that supposed to mean?

: Guys, don't fight... if you'd just listen a second to my ideas...

: Alice, you're insufferable!

Whoosh.

Anyway, since they're still arguing on what to do for the culture festival, we can't start work on that. So we'll just work on our stats instead.

I think that's our first critical success on Science. It's very much appreciated since the reduced energy costs and extra stats are very good for Science or Lit. Those are really hard stats to keep up.

We got another critical success for working out. We've seen that action before, haven't we?

We also get another critical success on Science over the weekend. That luck perk seems to be doing something. Event on Monday again.

: What's up, Rena?

: I was going to enter this regional poetry contest.

: Good luck!

: No, that's the problem. I thought it would be easy so I signed up, but... now I have no ideas.

: Ouch.

I know that feeling. It always came up in high school creative writing.

: Well, everybody has slumps sometimes.

Goon doesn't have slumps, he's just stuck in low mark purgatory.

Might as well see the rest of this event.

: Do you want me to try to help?

: Oh... alright, that sounds like a good idea.

: A little. Sometimes for school.

It's at this point I wondered whether this event was related to Art or Lit.

: I see. Well, there's no theme for the contest, just write what you want.

: Oh, alright. We should get to work then.

Game: The two of you spend over an hour brainstorming fro ideas together.

: Oh... I'm just not getting anywhere.

: Sorry I couldn't help.

Some events need higher than a C to get the good result. So it's hard to say whether this is linked to Art or Lit.

I was a little low on energy so I thought I'd give Suave Chat a shot. It doesn't take much energy.

Who needs Hiroshi?

Goodbye, fleeting popularity...

A critical success in Math. Things are looking up for us.

On the last Monday of May, we get another event.

Starting to wonder whether I should get a small image that says "Event!" and shove it in where I need it.

: Hey, what's up?

: Hey, take a look at Yui.

: What about her?

: Yeah, it just looks like she's sitting there reading. Not that she does much else.

: Exactly.

: Huh?

: I think she's just shy.

: Come on, even shy people laugh. She's just... creepy.

: I guess...

: Alright, what are you scheming?

Good instincts, Kazuki.

: You say that like I'm about to do something mean.

: Oh, I didn't mean it like that... sorry if it... ah.

Don't back down, man. :(

: Count me in!

Not sure I've ever seen any positive outcomes from this event.

: Great! Kazuki?

: I...uh... I don't know... what if we make her mad? I don't want to make her mad.

: How does that logic work?

: Look, just do it, okay?

: Alright.

This is a two-day event. It doesn't go anywhere as far as I know but there could be a good result from this event. Well, there probably is.

Either way, a day passes.

: Sure.

: I guess...

Yui just slides in from the left. It's kind of silly looking.

: Oh! I-

: Great!

This is going to fail so hard.

That was quick.

: What? Where are you going?!

: I told you she'd get angry!

Maybe I'll figure that event out one day.

Hey, that's neat. Different characters can pop up for different actions if your relation with them is good enough. It's either a critical fail or critical success. This is a success, of course.

Another event on Friday. Jeez, I don't remember getting this many events my first time playing this game...

: I want an honest opinion.

: Sure thing. What do you want to know?

: It's not as important as a lot of other things.

: That's what I think, too. Thanks, I just wanted another opinion... but...

: But...?

: I think I might be a bit rude... and I was wondering if it makes people think differently of me.

: You shouldn't be so concerned about it. Just be yourself!

: What do you mean?

: It's no use getting all worked up over it. Just be yourself. I like you for yourself.

: Wow... thank you.

Goon may not be able to spell or dress himself, but he's been pretty good about compliments!

No XP from this. I guess we needed to talk to Kiku to get the XP.

First Monday of June gives us another event. I swear, we only get half the time to work on our stats that we should be getting...

It's time for Swim Team again.

: Hey there, Alice.

: Swim season's starting again!

: Oh, is it? I suppose it's that time of year.

: I was hoping you'd want to join the team this year. You should consider becoming the towel manager.

I think we did our job for like 2 days, maybe.

: Towel manager, huh...?

: Yep.

: Sure, it sounds great.

There's no reason not to join, but there's also no reason to use Towel Manager...

Aya yells at us on Friday.

: ...Huh?

: You've heard what they're talking about doing for the culture festival, right?

: Yes?

: I can't believe this crap!

: ...Do you really want to know?

: Would I have asked if I didn't?

: Well.. alright. It'd help me get it going.

: I was even willing to work with Naoko and do some cooking crap. Moon pastries or something.

: I see.

: but nobody likes it. The losers!

: Of course! Science fiction is the best.

We never have to actually do anything for this. You can't get a Sci-fi culture festival, sadly.

: Great! Help me out. Tell everyone we should do a sci-fi theme.

Bah. No XP this update. Well, we're a week into June now. We have our exams next month but we should be sort of okay for those.

He is an actual route and he does have some character depth. It's just that we'll never see it until we get around to his route. You can learn some interesting stuff about him when you call him. He's certainly more complex than Rena or Alice but you don't usually see it since making fun of him is funnier.

This is not our Goon. This guy's been through like 10 loops. He's at the start of 3rd year.

Now, here's OUR Goon. He's just in 2nd year. Stark contrast, huh?

He's working on that.

Gonna try a new format for events.

Monday, June 12

: Uh... about what?

: We gotta make it quick, though.

Game: He looks around suspisciously to see if anyone is nearby.

: So...?

: Geez, do I need to spell it our for you?!

: Not a TOTAL loser, unlike some people... But if you don't shape up, I can't be seen with you anymore.

: Okay...

: So stop burying your nose in your textbooks or whatever, and get out more. Make some friends. If you work hard enough, you might even land yourself a few more dates.

Game: He walks away quickly, before you can another word.

That's a 'popularity too low' event. We might see it again. It took us a fair bit longer to get this event than I thought. We'd been coasting off a pretty high starting popularity from a relatively good Charm stat.

Tuesday, June 13.

: Hello, Lorde-san.

: Yo, Lorde-san! What's up?

: Nothing much, just heading home.

: We are going to visit that new pastry shop that opened up. It is fairly high class, from what I have heard.

: Oops, I just remembered I have an errand I need to run...

: I understand. See you later, then.

: Aww man, what kind of errand could be important than checking out fancy cakes?

I'm not sure why I turned down that event at the time. It's only a one day event. Maybe I just wanted to pick [Lie].

:3:

Friday, June 16

: ...Perhaps with a bit of red rose?

: No... the rose... overpowers. Maybe pansies?

: What are you two doing?

: Yes. It is fun...

On my first real loop, I thought we could join the ikebana club if we turned down the swim club. Nope, you can't join any other clubs.

: I see.

: Lorde-san, do you know what the student council is picking for the theme this year?

: I heard... feudal Japan.

: They won't stop fighting on it.

: Of course. They never stop.

: I do not like... fighting.

: Nobody does.

: They seem to fight a lot, though.

: I see. This is true...

: I do so loathe that.

: W... what idea... would you propose, Kiku?

: Yes, what?

: Oh... I could help... right?

: Of course. Everyone could- Lorde-san, Rena, Alice, and Hiroshi, all together.

: And Aya...?

: I doubt Aya would like it.

: ...Heehee.

: Alright, well, I must be going. But thank you for the talk, Lorde-san.

: Of course.

: Goodbye.

It's been a while since we got some XP. Glad to see some.

Friday, June 23

: Because... nice food is a good idea, too... that's why.

: You give up too quickly, too! Jeez.

: How am I giving up...?

: What's going on, you two?

: She's being stupid!

: I like it! And I've been talking around and Suzu seemed interested...

: Suzu liked the idea?

: Yeah! She seemed really interested.

: She can be interested in things besides mechanics? Heh!

: Oh, well, er...

: Why do you care so much, Aya?

: Nuh-uh! What are you talking about?

: It's a good idea.

: Haha, see? My ideas are good!

: WHAT? How can anyone possibly like it?

: Lorde sees what is pure and good in the idea, Aya, silly. He appreciates talent!

Goon could use the praise.

: You're both insane. Argh! Why can't we have more normal people here...

I didn't really mind Aya too much up until this update but here she's a massive jerk.

I used Uber Fashion for some reason. I'm not sure why but we did go from 6 Fashion to 8. So like going from 20% on a test to 30% on the same. Better but we're still failing that.

Monday, June 26

Maybe I should talk to her.

: ...

: Hey, Kasumi... something wrong?

...Alright, then...

Nothing we can do there.

Wednesday, June 28

: Hey! What're you doing?

: Oh, sorry... I'm reading this guide. It's for modding a game system to play imports.

: Do you get it?

: I don't get it, sorry. Maybe you could ask Suzu?

: That's what friends are for.

: Sounds a bit selfish.

: Well, if she had a problem, you'd want her to ask you for help, right?

: Yeah... I guess I see. Thanks, I'll ask her.

Didn't capture it but we got a point of XP from this event.

Friday, June 30

oh goody

: Hiroshi, I'm not even supporting my idea anymore! I want to do Kiku's!

He's gone full conspiracy theory. What a tragedy.

: You sound CRAZY, Hiroshi!

: What's going on?

: Not all of them. She's giving a biased sample.

: No, I think YOU are. You just want to support your cause.

: ...So you said you're not supporting your idea anymore. What idea, then?

: Yui talked to you? And... Ikebana?! Can't we put some lights in the flowers, at least?

Now, my grasp of English is quite mediocre for it being my first language, but shouldn't that be "spoke" instead of "talked"...?

: What?

: I think you're missing the point of ikebana entirely...

: I'm not that big on flower arrangements, myself.

: I think we should do it...

: ...Hey, Lorde-san. Lorde-san!

: Yes?

: Yes, it seems like a good idea.

: WHAT? Really?

: Heehee, we win! See, there's a majority against you.

He could always cry "oppression of the majority" if he was smart enough.

: Grr...

I suppose it'd be a little silly in this context.

: So give it up and accept that we're doing an ikebana presentation for the festival.

: Okay, FINE. Fine. I suppose...

: Not if we vote over you again!

: Someone better tell Kiku.

: Oh... yes. Hold on, I know where she is.

: Oh! Are you serious? That is truly fantastic.

: I thought you would like it.

: ...Yeah, it'll be great.

: Oh, I am.

: You seem tense.

: I'm not.

: If you say so...

: I bet.

: Wow, can you get any more sarcastic, Hiroshi? You never know, you might think it's fun.

: Ha... tough chance.

: Just suck it up and take it.

: No, you do not, Hiroshi. You might as well accept the fact that we need to get to work... on a flower arrangement.

: Ah, well... I guess it isn't the end of the world.

: Girls love flowers, you know, Hiroshi.

: ...Yeah, yeah, I know...

I guess we'll start after exams. They're on the week after this.

: We need to start planning. Tons of stuff to do on this over the summer.

Blargh. Well, that's after exams.

We get a bit of last minute study done before exams.

And they're over like that.

We get to working on the Culture Festival again. :allears:

Friday, July 14

But first, we have a loading screen.

I feel a similar dread now to that feeling when I got my marks back in uni. Except less extreme, because this is a video game and that was a degree.

Let's see how I did...

It's been a long time coming, but here's our first failed exam!

We got a B in Lit once. It's going to be a while before we get another.

To start the day off, we decide to call Alice and chat for a bit.

: Oh, not too much. Just finished some homework with Naoko and Rena.

: Oh, that's cool. Hmm, you really seem to have adjusted well to life over here.

: Hmm, it wasn't really too hard.

: Really? That's surprising.

: I mean sure, life is really different over here in some ways, but when you confront something new, you just have to really throw yourself into it.

: That's a good attitude to have.

: I'll admit I was a little scared at first. There's nothing like being afraid of not making any friends.

: You started participating in things right away though, right?

: Good strategy.

: I think so, too. Just stay active and interested and you'll be surprised at what happens!

: I'll remember that.

: I feel like I have a lot of good friends now...

Still annoyed that we can't join the ikebana club.

: Yup! They're also in a lot of our classes, so we were really able to become friends quickly.

: That's cool.

My thoughts exactly.

: Heh, she's certainly everywhere...

: Tell me about it... oh well, there's one in every crowd, right?

: Heh, yeah...

: Well, Shira Oka is happy to have you.

: Thanks!

: No problem.

: Well, I think I'm going to go take a nap after all that homework.

: Bye!

These conversations are longer than I remember.

Actions sometimes have different animations depending on if you're at school or not. This is the weekend so we get to be outside.

Monday, July 17

Of all the tests to notice, did it have to be Lit...?

: Hello, Kiku. What's going on?

Hey, this is new text. Didn't know there were separate events for getting an F in something...

: Ugh, you had a look at my scores?

: Yes. Anyone concerned about you would have taken a look.

: Of course I do. I'll try hard.

We'll go from a F to a F+, just watch us. :v:

: Good.

Hopefully we'll find Cram Session in this LP. Keeping Lit up is a pain no matter how much Intelligence you have.

Tuesday, July 18

: Hey everybody, step right up and enter to win the "Ultimate Perfect Day!"

: Hey, that sounds pretty cool...

: Are you going to enter, Goon?

: Come on, Aya! You already entered 7 times!

: You never said there's a limit!

: Gr...

Good job, Alice. But shouldn't you have done that at the start?

: You're no fun!

: No kidding...

: Hey Kasumi, would you like to enter?

: It's foolish to think that all of that is the "ultimate perfect day"...

: Er... what do you mean?

We haven't really spoken much to Kasumi so far, have we?

: I think she's just like that sometimes.

: I've never met anyone so moody...

: Maybe I should go talk to her...

: That's nice of you, Goon.

Game: As you approach, you notice her dour disposition. You wonder if she will be in the mood to talk, or if she'll become angry at you.

: ...

Ah, there she is...

: ...

: Hey, Kasumi...

: Yes?

: Um, I overheard you talking about that "ultimate perfect day" contest.

: Yeah...

: I was just wondering why you didn't like all that stuff. I mean, it sounds like it could really be fun.

: Everyone has different ideas of happiness, though...

: You'd understand if you knew what happiness really is.

No XP as usual...

We can't work on the culture festival prep during the holidays so after exams is a good time to get some of it done.

Friday, July 21

There's never enough free time in the last and first weeks of school.

: I don't know if it's a good idea.

: Come on, Kazuki. Live a little bit.

I can tell it's a bad idea already.

: Hiroshi...

: Uh, alright.

: You're a guy. Hear me out.

: Uh huh?

: I think that we should go out during the break somewhere with a lot more people.

Umm...?

: Hiroshiiii.

: Hold on, hold on, I'm not done yet.

: How far?

: Eh, a bit out of this prefecture is all. Maybe over to the closest big city we can make it to.

I'm glad we don't have to manage funds. Knowing this game, we'd be eternally poor and having to deal with a job would make this game even more of a grind.

: Shush! Come on, you two aren't letting me get the drat idea out.

: Yeah, sorry.

: Anyway. We go out there, we go out shopping and get some nice clothes.

"Nice clothes" is a foreign concept to Goon.

: Yeah, and we schmooze around with the ladies all up there.

: Why? Er, I mean... it'll be too far to visit, right?

: Well, we wouldn't go THAT far and... and that's not the point, besides.

Some good options here.

: It's to pal around with pretty girls without consequence.

: I don't... un... understand.

: Kazuki, geez. It's like this, right?

: Uh huh?

: All the girls around here KNOW you by now.

: So?

:...

Hiroshi clearly feels threatened by the best dude in this game, Kazuki.

: If you go out of town and meet new girls, they don't got to know, right?

: That doesn't seem like the way to found a lasting relationship.

: I said nothing about a lasting relationship. Besides, it's better than just sitting at home all the time tinkering with toys.

: Have you ever driven one?

: I don't have a license. I can't yet.

: Then what's the point? Because you will someday? Or do they have a height requirement for those?

: Stop being so mean! Man, why are you so bitter today?

: Just come with me, already.

: He doesn't want to.

: Whatever, whatever. Parents probably wouldn't let me anyway. You're so lucky, Kazuki. Your parents are gone all the time so I bet you get away with everything you want.

: Ha!

: Better than what Aya's planning.

: Oh? What's she up to?

: Collecting information on being an astronaut so she can go collect Mars rocks or whatever.

: I thought it was Neptune.

: Isn't Neptune covered in gasses? I don't think a human could survive there.

Nice to see we agree on something.

: Whatever. We'll figure it out. We still have a few days before the break. We wouldn't want it to go to waste, after all.

: Well... I had plans and all...

: I bet we all do.

: Even you, huh?

: Yeah, even me. I'll be seeing you around, Lorde-san.

Well, that amounted to nothing.

We get some study done. We'll need to work on the culture festival when we get back so that's like a month that needs to be set aside.

We haven't had a date with Alice yet so I decided to schedule one.

: Hello Goon!

: Hi there, Alice. Do you have any free time soon?

: Hmm? Why?

She told us that she loved Karaoke World when we met. So that's an easy pick.

We pick it a week from now.

: So that's a good time for you?

: Sure is. I'll be sure to meet you there.

: Great, see ya then.

: See you, too!

Alright, that's done.

Decided to see if we could salvage our Fashion in time. The cut-off for merely bad instead of awful will be around 20ish right now.

Not enough but that's a pretty fast rate of growth. Bodes well for future loops.

Sunday, August 12

Seriously, Goon? Now I almost don't feel like organising any more dates.

I don't see her anywhere... is she gone already?

: How are you doing today?

That's the second time our luck has held.

Did she just get here, too?

: Oh... no problem. I just go here myself. Let's go in.

Game: The two of you head inside Karaoke World and are shown into a private booth containing a couch facing a TV, surrounded by karaoke equipment. Alice starts looking over the song list.

: Hey Alice, would you like something to drink?

I hate linking TvTropes but the first thing is an anime thing.

: Yes, I do. What flavour would you like to try?

Game: Alice looks over the drink menu.

: You know, I never had bubble tea in America. I don't think I could handle some of these flavours. I think I'll play it safe and have the mango.

Never had bubble tea. I prefer tea's that can be drank without milk/sugar. Like this.

Game: You step out to the counter and return with the drinks.

: Here you go.

: Thanks, Goon. So what do we do next?

: Well, now you pick a song, and sing it.

: Oh, I'm going first, then? Okay. You know... most singers would be horrified at the thought of going on without warming up.

: Don't worry, no one will hear it but me.

Goon got a B in Art, he's okay.

: That's a comforting though... somewhat. Well, I'll give it my best shot.

Game: Alice chooses a song and gets ready. Alice sings a famous enka song. You are impressed by the wide range of her voice, and the depth of emotion with which she sang. She stumbled on a few of the words. It looked like she was having trouble keeping up with some of the lyrics as they scrolled by.

Option 2 is for a boot-licker, Option 3 is for Hiroshi.

: I don't know... that was a pretty tough act to follow.

: Just try your best. I'm sure it can't be that bad.

: Okay...

...Game, where the hell is my Jazz option? Ugh, I guess we'll just match her then. We'll pick the Enka song.

Game: You sing a well-known enka melody, even trying to imitate the distinctive gravelly voice of the middle-aged female singer.

: I never would've guessed that you would pick that song. It was kind of a challenge to song, wasn't it? I could tell you were having a hard time reaching some of the high notes, and the timing was off in quite a few places...

...Oh right, she likes the Ballad the most. Or the Dance. It's definitely not the Rock though.

: That's okay... anyway, it's your turn again. What do you want to sing next?

: That sounds good, okay.

Huh, that's another odd little jump in the conversation.

Game: The two of you continue taking turns singing songs. After a couple hours have passed, Alice glances at her watch.

: Oh, look at the time! I have to get going. I still have homework and chores to do.

Date is still success, we're okay.

: Anyway, see you around school, Goon-kun.

Goon-kun :japan:

That went well enough.

We bug Satsuko afterwards and "Alice is really falling for you". Maybe we're on track for an ending in this loop?

Mechanics Chat

I may have mentioned this but part of the reason I started this LP was due to the extreme lack of information out there about this game. We don't know the cut-off for grades, unlocking Cram Session and Robotics is confusing since we don't know if low or high stats trigger their trainings and the developers have disappeared into the Abyss for all I know.

So I started doing a bit of research again.

My excellent sources include an archived copy of the forums, a GameFAQs guide on V 0.11 and the TvTropes page. Not linking for spoilers and the fact that's it already led me wrong.

Cram Session and Robotics have very unclear requirements. TvTropes and the forums claim that high stats are required to begin the event for those super trainings, but Rhiodise and another friend of mine who is playing claim the contrary. And while I trust the Shira Oka forums well enough, I trust first-hand accounts more.

I did actually get some info about Cram Session from my friend. He got it on 21 August, Year 1, before the Year 1, Semester 2 exams. His Lit was not good and the event was apparently "Can we study together?". It started before the preparations for the Culture Festival too and it seemed relatively random.

So we'll need low Lit, possibly on good terms with Alice and maybe her ending. Still a random event but we can possibly narrow this down a bit.

So much speculation..

:suicide:

The other thing I've been planning on tracking is Grades.

Current statistics give you better grades, yes, we know. The stat requirements on these go up as well.

Aside from the breakpoints, there are some things we need to clear up before we consider tracking the data for this stuff.
  • When does this thing check our stats? From the timed events like the culture festival prep, those things take into account work you've done in the week even though you don't get to see it. So we'll be taking data from the day after exams.

  • Do our Vital Statistics affect the grade requirements? For saving Yui from the truck, the Sports requirements actually go down as your Fitness rises. I don't know if something similiar applies to grades but if it does, we'll be able to notice something weird when comparing early loop data to late loop data.

  • What exactly are the breakpoints for each grade? We don't know but a rough estimate gives either an initial C at 0 and the C requirement going up by 10 each semester. I think it might be closer to an initial C at 6 and the C requirement going up 9 each semester. +20/+10/0/-10/-20 for different grades or something like that. I'll give you a table.

It's a little simpler presented that way. A guess from the FAQ up top, my guess down bottom.

To try and get an estimate, I've collected the stats we had after the exams and the grades we got. I suspect Shira Oka stores our current stats as doubles(decimals) or something similiar. Be a hell of a lot easier if I knew how to crack upon the game, but this'll have to do.

Really depressing data to look at, I know.

It looks like this game may have it's own engine. There are some fairly big files in the install with a .oka extension. Kind of weird. There's also a few 200+MB .dat's. Opening them in notepad++ just gives me 2 million+ lines of garbage.

So yeah, I was just posting this to let you guys know. If you have any more info about the game, any more sources or any clue how to crack this game open, I'm keen for suggestions.

If it was made in Renpy it would be fairly easy, but if it has a unique engine, I dunno :(

http://www.cheatengine.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=529516&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=30&sid=e4f3011c058be79110cca4c6a5675b72 does this thread help you in any way? It's a poor sub for actual code mechanics, but it might help you getting the exact values for grades.

Or get a back-up if you get slammed by LP curse :v:

I took a look at that and it seems like more of a cheat engine to modify stats than something we can really use to dig into the game. Thanks, but I don't think it'll be much help.

Speaking of the LP Curse, my computer actually needed to do a disk check on boot today. Apparently it didn't turn off right. It's fine now but I've backed up my game files to an external HDD. I was actually thinking whether the LP Curse had come for me or not. :v:

The recording for last update's recording actually goes for a bit longer. This is on the Sunday after our date with Alice.

There's a ton of stuff to do.

Game: You spend the first day of Obon with your family, just as you did last year. After the night hits, you light the lanterns in the doorway of your house. The rest of the night is spent visiting relatives.

Our last Obon was 13 updates ago.

: Did you make sure that you can really see the lanterns from the road? They have to be super-visible.

: Of course.

: Can't be too careful. They say if your lanterns aren't clearly visible, the spirits of the dead will never be able to find their way home again. And you wouldn't want that to happen... what if they couldn't find it here but couldn't find their way back to the afterlife, either?

: I'm very sure of it... we hung them together and went to the street to check.

: Oh... then I guess it's okay. I was just worried about all your deceased relatives...

: No,it's okay. They will make it here safely.

: Alright, then. You better get to sleep, since you're going to end up spending the day with your family and all.

Spooky.

I like starting and ending with a stat screen but I can't always do it.

Tuesday, August 15

Game: Everyone sets down their lanterns in the river.

: Or Kasumi either, the snob. She's too good to celebrate Obon with us.

: Aya...

Game: The lanterns are laid in water, and they float off, becoming distant lights as they float by.

So peaceful...

Game: Kasumi stoops by the river, alone, and casts off a single red lantern. Before you can even think of addressing her, however, she is gone.

: Is that...

: Who would float a red lantern...?

: A red lantern... ominous.

Game: The lanterns float into the night, lighting a magical path down the river that can be seen for far.

Well, it's not a bad piece of art...

I should really be more concerned about Science. But a high Art stat will help with Alice/Rena/Yui.

Oh, and we also schedule a day out at the Park on the 9th of September. We might as well see if we can get some extra phone numbers this run.

Sunday, August 27

: I can't believe this crap!

: What is it, Aya?

And thus ends our noble towel duties. We didn't even do anything this season.

: Swim season will start again soon enough.

: Yeah, I guess...

Ew, that second option...

: Well, I guess you'll have to find some other way to entertain yourself for now.

: Yeah, I guess... I suppose I have some manga I can catch up on...

: There you go.

: Heh, good luck.

That finished abruptly.

Sports is pretty easy to raise. Difficult to solely focus on it, but it still goes up fast.

Sunday, September 3

: It's almost time for school to start again, Goon.

: Yeah, I did.

We had a date with Alice and actually had time to work on stats. Time is very valuable.

: Fantastic. That's what I was hoping you'd say, heehee.

Game: Suddenly, you hear other voices.

: REALLY?

: He was asking Kazuki funny questions, teehee!

: How pathetic.

Kiku's great, have I said that yet?

: Who're we talking about, girls?

: Yeah, I'm here on a little trip from Sweden.

: Anyway, we're talking about Hiroshi.

: He apparently thought that Naoko was mad at him so he kept calling her house over and over to make sure that she wasn't.

: It was a little annoying, to be honest.

: Well, we do not doubt that. But it is still rather funny...

: Hey, guys, why don't we ask her?

: Ask me what?

: Just girls. None of the guys are invited.

: Sounds fun! I'd love to come.

Not much point in telling her she can't.

: No, go have fun.

: Yay! I'm sorry we won't get to do all those things we had planned tonight.

Goon is really at his best when he's playing off Satsuko. He's a pretty good straight man.

: Heehee, I'm glad you'll be coming with us. It's a good chance to get to know you better, Satsuko-chan. We don't see you very often.

: No, only when you visit from Sweden...

: I'm from a foreign country, too, so I know what it's like to be that far away from home! Do you miss where you're from, Satsuko?

: Er... sometimes.

: Well, I'll be going to get some food for tonight. We're going to stay up late and so we're going to want snacks!

How rebellious.

: Oh, please let me help, Alice. It will be so much fun.

: Alright. Come on, then.

Game: Kasumi walks by. She seems to be off in her own world.

: ...

: Is that...?

: Kasumi...?

: Kasumi, come here a moment.

: ...Okay.

: The girls and I are having a night alone tonight.

: ...

: Would you like to come?

: Who is this?

: Who? Lorde-san?

it's me, your brother

: No. The girl...

: This is Lorde-san's cousin, Satsuko. She is from another country.

: Is that so...

: No... I have a... I have some books to read.

: Please, Kasumi? You so rarely do anything with us.

: You wouldn't want me there anyhow. You have the others and... Satsuko here.

: This is just plain silly. I would not have invited you if I did not want you to come.

: *sigh*

We'll run into this event every loop, yes. I'll be skipping it.

September, October, November. We've got two months to finish off the culture festival and yes, I had to look up the order of months. :eng99:

Monday, September 4

Good.

: Come to think of it, I haven't seen you around much lately. Have you been skipping school lately?

: Uh, no... why do you ask?

: I just haven't noticed you lately.

Our popularity is too low. Hiroshi told us this as well.

: Oh, really?

: Yeah. You should try to make more friends. And you know, work on your image. Stop being so boring. You won't get many dates the way you are now!

: Okay...

I'm still not sure what Popularity does. It probably has some effect on dates, events or relations but I'm not sure what or how significant it is.

Tuesday, September 5.

: Sure, okay.

: Hello, Yui. How are you today?

: I... am fine. I just wanted to know... Did the flowers we ordered for the horticulture club come in yet?

A sentence from Yui without ellipsis's? Whoa.

: No, not yet. Would you like to sit with us, though?

: Oh... alright.

Game: Yui sits at the table, smoothing out her skirt afterwards.

Game: She pulls a small doll from her bag.

: What is that?

This is going to go great.

: What is a voodoo doll?

: If someone does something mean to you, you can make a little doll of them and stick it with pins and junk to make the person suffer for it!

: Oh, honestly, Aya. That is a total misconception, that is not what voodoo is or how it works...

: Wanna see it, Yui?

: ...!

Game: Aya tries to give the doll to Yui, but Yui shrinks back in horror.

: Haha, Yui, there's nothing to be afraid of.

: Even if it did work, that is a cowardly way to solve your problems... you should face the person and tell them what they did.

This is a surprisingly spiritual update. Obon, Satsuko and now a voodoo doll. I couldn't bring myself to delay this update until Halloween but it would've worked pretty well on that day.

: HEY, it's not like I wanted to do anything BAD, I just wanted to play some pranks. Here, I'll show you.

: NO!

Game: Yui bolts up from her seat, reaching to grab the doll from Aya, who pulls away, looking a bit put off.

: Geez, calm down...

Since when have I cared about Aya's feelings?

: Hey, Aya. Knock it off.

: Aww, man, I'm just playing!

: It's not funny, okay?

: Hmph.

: Just drop it, okay? You're really upsetting Yui.

: Coward...

: ...

We made the right choice. :toot:

We also get a pretty good week of Science out of this.

On Sunday, we head down to the park.

...

I was expecting Rena but this is fine.

: Yui!

: H-hello... I am sorry... you just surprised me.

: Sorry. So what's up?

: I was just going to spend some time in the park... would you perhaps like to join?

: Alright.

Still rocking that failed Fashion look.

Park's a little simpler than the shopping mall. I don't think I've ever gotten a negative response to this location before.

We go to see the ducks.

: There are more ducks here than I thought there would be.

: Yes... sometimes a lot of other people come here too. To feed the ducks.

: Do you like to watch the children who come by?

Odd topic to bring up.

: Yes.

: Do you ever feed them yourself?

: Haha- no, the ducks!

: Do you just prefer to watch them?

: Yes. They look so peaceful out on the water.

: Yeah... and so relaxed. Nowhere to go and nothing to do.

: But they seem to care for each other.

: Even ducks need friends.

Game: You take Yui's hand.

Starting to feel like Yui brings out the creeper in Goon. We also got an option to hold her hand in the playground event from a while back...

Well, it didn't backfire so it's alright, I guess.

Had ducks, good date.

We finally grab that point of Fitness. It's taken some time. Going to go grab some Intelligence next.

About two months to the culture festival and another to Year 2, Semester 2 exams.

Satsuko says we're on the right track to being friends with Yui. Progress!

Cheat Engine can be used to modify stats, yes. It's what I used for changing things in this game, but it's a bit hard to get to work on this one because the stats aren't exactly the same as what you see. I don't remember the details but I remember having to play with it for a while before I figured out how to get things to change. Maybe I'll poke at it again and see what I can find out.

It won't let you actually dig into the game files but if you keep a save before exams, it would let you change your stats and see what effect that had on your grades. Unfortunately, I'm not good enough at using Cheat Engine to actually set up a table, so every time I started the game up and wanted to change something I had to find the values again manually. It's not that hard if you know how the numbers work but it takes a week or two in game to do it.

Two months to exams, but since we've just dumped Lit entirely, this shouldn't be too bad.

: Hey, Suzu. What have you got there?

: Oh, it's one of those virtual pocket pets.

: Do you really like that sort of thing?

: Oh. That's nice.

: Yeah, I really think it's cute. Maybe I should see if I could make one.

: Good luck with that!

We don't see much of Suzu. If we were a Science sort of guy, we'd see her around a lot more.

Wednesday, September 13

Game: The moment Kazuki walks up to you, it's obvious he's a bit taller. It's also equally obvious he's wearing a pair of platform shoes that are increasing his height. Not by much, but enough to be noticeable.

I checked but I don't think they actually changed his sprite or moved him up. Seems to be the same height as always.

: Oh, hi, Kazuki...

: What's up?

: Not much, wasting time before class. How about you?

: Er, not much either, I-

: Those are the most awful shoes I've ever seen.

: Uh... what's wrong with them...?

: They look horrid for one, and do you think they're fooling anybody, making you just a TINY bit taller? Come on, Kazuki!

: Lay off him, Aya.

: What? Why?

: I think they look rather nice on him, actually.

Reminder - Goon has the equivalent of an F in Fashion.

: You do? But they're hideous.

: You say that, but I like them. They fit him well.

: ...Shows what you know. Hmph.

: Thank you. They are nice, er, aren't they?

: Yep.

hello xp my old friend

A rare screen grab of preparations going well. We're working on this even though we have like 3 weeks of slack. It's good to get it out of the way.

Whoa, a loading screen! We get a fair chunk of work done before our next event.

Thursday, September 28

I decide to take up the game on it's offer. We're on pretty good terms with Naoko.

: Hello, Naoko. What are you up to?

: Oh, dear. Well, I think that Kazuki and Suzu should get together. They're kind of cut around each other. But the poor dear needs a little push. So I was going to pick up a present for hint to give her.

Huh, that was sudden. And she called Kazuki "poor dear"...

: I see.

Wow, that third option sounds so bitter.

: That's a good idea.

: Oh, I'm glad you think so too!

: Help him all you can.

: Thanks for the support. Lots of people think I'm too into helping others. But I don't think there's any way you could help people too much!

: No, that just shows you care, I think.

One of these events I forgot about, I guess.

We finish up the preparations for festival prep. We're like a month early.

Tuesday, October 3

I've been expecting this since the last time I checked with Satsuko about Alice.

: Hey there! You know, I've been thinking about lately... and how scared I was when I first came to Shira Oka...

: Why were you scared?

: Well, I guess I was scared that nobody was going to like me... And, well... I've been kind of thinking that I'm really glad we became friends.

:3:

: Oh?

: Yes. I guess what I wanted to say was... thank you for helping me feel welcome. You're a special person. I hope we can spend even more time together in the future. Oh no, look at the time! I'd better get back to practising...

That was Alice's second affection conversation. As long as we don't screw up from here, we can safely say that Alice's ending is a very real possibility for this cycle.

We need a bit more work done to be able to safely get a D in Science.

...Man, settling for a D is depressing, especially coming from end-game Goon.

We chat with Alice a bit more.

: Hey, Alice!

: Oh, hey Goon-kun! What's up?

"Goon-kun". That always looks silly to me. I mean, it's correct but maybe it's just the fact that we're called Goon.

: Not too much. What are you up to?

: I just talked to my parents, so I'm feeling pretty happy!

: Oh, that's awesome! How often do you talk to them?

: About once a week or so.

: Do you miss them a lot?

: Hmm, not really. I know that sounds weird, but I don't really get homesick.

: I bet they miss you a lot.

: I know they do, but they also know that I'm over here learning a lot and having a good time, so they're okay too.

: Ah, that's good.

: Who would want to be sad all the time, anyway? I want to enjoy my time in Japan while I have it.

: That's cool. There's no point in being depressed all the time.

: Exactly! I'm having the time of my life here.

: Good, I'm glad.

: Though, I do miss the food at home...

: I've heard there's great pizza in America.

: Oh, it's the best! Man, now you're going to give me a craving!

I wonder where in America Alice is from. I'd assume California since Okashi Studios were based there.

: Maybe Naoko could whip something up for you?

I don't know if I've ever had artichoke, I don't like pineapple on my pizza and I'm not a fan of extra cheese.

: Mushroom!

: Oh, that's one of my favourites!

: Now I'm hungry...

: Hmm, I'll talk to Naoko sometime and see if we can make something.

: Make sure you save me a slice!

: I can eat a ton of pizza, so I can't guarantee anything!

: Aww, alright...

: Ah, I have to go to practice.

: Okay, talk to you later!

If you're having issues with a route, try calling them occasionally. Small chat can help a lot. If you don't have their numbers, then head out to places on your own and you might find them.

Aya requests help, we can't, we've seen this. I wasn't expecting a repeated event so early, but there you go.

Tuesday, October 17

Game: You go over to them to see what the matter is.

Well, that's an interesting to hear first.

: Just go bother someone else, Aya!

: What's going on, guys?

"Bobo"?

: If that's the case, then no wonder Rena's such a nut. It's hereditary!

: I really did eat a magic snake!

: Who knows, Aya? There are a lot of different foods out there, and that snake could have been special...

: Yeah!

: Ugh, I'm surrounded...

: Hiroshi! Thank god you showed up.

: Heh, wouldn't be the first time I heard that...

: Rena says she ate a magic snake last night for dinner that her mom had made, but what did she really eat?

Hmm, I've never had eel...

: Hahaha, seriously?!

: Yeah, I don't know where she gets "magic snake" from...

: Even Lorde-san bought into her wacky story.

: Oh?

: I figured there are a lot of different foods out there, so there's a possibility that she could have eaten a magic snake...

Goon's smart enough to realise he's dumb. :pseudo:

: He's the only one who believes me.

I'll take the crazy, thanks!

Wednesday, 25 October

Game: You see that Alice looks quite down today.

...?

I better see what's wrong. What kind of friend would I be if I didn't?

: Hey, Alice... is something wrong?

: Hmm? No, not... really, no.

: Are you sure? You look pretty down.

: ...Well...

: Really?

You already told us you don't get homesick this update.

...Actually, I wonder if that call flipped a flag necessary for this event. I've seen this event before, once.

: Yeah, I like it here a lot, and I really like the people, but I really miss home too.

: Maybe we should do something to remind you of home.

: Really?

: Yeah, we'll go do whatever you want.

: Well, okay. That sounds alright to me.

: See you after school, then.

Game: After school you meet up with Alice.

Quick fade to black and then we're here.

: Oh, there you are.

: I thought we could go to the mall, maybe?

: Sounds good to me.

: I'll take us out for some late lunch.

: Really? Where at?

: You'll see.

Sounds like one of those knockoff fast food places I saw in Dhaka. Just like Krispy Fried Chicken.

Game: The food was simple, just burgers and fries, but it seemed to cheer her up noticeably.

: Oh, it was nothing.

: No, you were really nice to me. You knew how much I was missing home and this was perfect to make me feel a little more at home. It's just like the cheeseburgers my friends and I would get after school.

: It's the least I could do.

Nice to be getting XP again.

Of course, I forgot to grab a point of Intelligence now, but eh.

Friday, November 3

: Oh, hush, Aya... it was good for you.

: Oh, really...

: Hey, don't be like that, Hiroshi.

Watching Hiroshi flip back and forth is kind of funny to me.

: Yeah, but you have to keep in mind that Rena was working on this, and Rena loves ikebana! I do all sorts of junk that I don't like to do just to be with my siblings.

Is this Aya being respectable..?

Nah.

: Oh... well, when you put it that way...

Culture Festival is usually just some easy points with people. Unless you're swamped with work, but it'd have to be a pretty dire situation for that to be the case.

: Oh, yes, indeed, he did. Everyone helped to grow the flowers for the ikebana display, an everyone did their best to help make them, but Lorde-san pushed himself quite hard.

: Yeah, good job.

: I'm so glad... Our club tried so hard! Yui, Kiku and I were spending nights with the flowers... I slept by them frequently and spoke with them, trying to calm them and encourage them to grow.

: Heh... well, I'm glad that us others could be a help, too... I hope Alice is happy.

: She is! Oh, you should hear her... she's overjoyed that this display worked out for everyone.

: I'm surprised it worked out so well, actually. I wasn't expecting that by any means...

Wish we could actually see the culture festival for once.

Oh well. I grab that point of Intelligence I wanted.

Exams next month. A little more work on Science and we'll be fine. The cutoff for a D for Science is around 30 - 32, probably. If not, well, we can learn.

I've been doing some poking around with Cheat Engine and I've figured out how to find and change the six school related stats and the physical and mental stamina. If anyone else is interested in messing with it I can give more details later, but for now I'll just mention that the six stats are actually 100x what you see. So, for example, if the number says 6 and you're exactly halfway through the bar, your actual stat is 650. Stamina goes from 0-10000. I also noticed while making changes and testing whether I had the right values or not that talking to Setsuko in your room costs you a tiny bit of both types of stamina for some reason.

I started testing the first loop exam to start trying to figure out what stats you need to get which grades. I've only run a couple tests so far, so I don't have a lot of data yet. What I've figured out so far is that even without spending a single point of XP in any of the main four stats or any quirks, it is literally impossible to fail the first exam. I locked my literature stat at 0 and still got a D. I haven't found the exact point where the grade changes from a D to a C, it's somewhere between 150 and 175. I'll run some more tests in the next day or two to try and get more information.

Mysticblade
Oct 22, 2012

That'd be pretty handy if you could. If you can write down some of that data, I'd be more than willing to put it in the OP. All I have is soft approximations so far. We didn't actually know you could get a D on the first test on sheer stats since I don't think there's a way to get one of your stats to fall that low so early without cheating. We just assumed that >0 is a C.

I'll keep on taking down these stats though. It's good to see how far we've come and how we're actually becoming worse at Lit. Knowing the grade benchmarks to a full stat point will be fine though. No need to worry whether 150 or 175 is the break point for a grade. I'd be interested in learning how to get the data myself but if you feel doing the tests, I'll gladly take the data. It means I can work on updates a bit more.

The Stamina being out of 10000 is actually something you can figure out in-game though! If you look at a save and click "Details" it'll give your stamina as a value from 0 - 10000, although they put a % sign after that for some reason. A full bar of stamina while having the Meditate option is still a 10000% bar. So I'm guessing it just does something to stamina costs instead of increasing your max stamina. I couldn't make sense of this before since I just saw 10000% and assumed something was wrong with that.

It should still be possible to fail the first exam, but you might need to run out of stamina first. I haven't actually shown what happens when you run out of stamina yet, but we need every day we can get so far. I think being depressed + sick will give you automatic F's in everything. I can try confirming that at some point.

Yeah, I guess I should have mentioned that the reason I bothered finding the stamina information at all was so that I could lock it at max so it wouldn't cause variations until I was ready to check how much it affected things. I was planning to do a bunch of testing about how stats and stamina affected the grades, which is why I was going to get the specific break point. After sleeping on it, though, I think I'll wait on the more detailed tests until later because the obnoxiously long event where Satsuko goes to school with you is popping up between the exams and the results for me.

SICK LOOT!
So do we really have to do the Aya route? I kind of hate her a lot.

Mysticblade

At some point we'll have to. I mean, we can put it off to the end where we'll have seen half of the events in the game and I can basically cover 2-3 months per update. I actually did Aya's route last on my first run of this game.

Well, provided the LP doesn't die. But actually playing Shira Oka while taking frequent breaks is fun. Playing for more than 3 hours at a time is an immense drag though.

Did another set of tests tonight. For the first cycle exams, a character with no XP spent at all but maxed stamina gets a D with a 0 or a 1 in a stat. The range for C is 2-14, then it's every 10 points. 15-24 is B, 25-34 is A, and if you have at least 35 you get an A+.

I did one other test, where I spent XP to raise the Intelligence stat to 5. I did the exams with a 21, 22, 23, and 24. They were all still B, so it looks like the intelligence stat doesn't change the target numbers.

I still plan to get a bit more in depth with stamina changes and a few other things but that'll probably wait until the second term exams in cycle 2, assuming there's not another long tedious event that gets in my way there.

So Aya was supposed to be the figurhead for this series? I have to admit that it's really nice to see that she is far from the usual demure waif that these kind of games tend to have as the canon choice but boy, did they go way off in the other direction instead with her personality.

Yakumo, there's usually not huge events before exams. I know there's times where exams have just jumped out on me.

Apparently Aya was meant to be a figurehead. Points for having personality, I suppose, but she loses a lot for hating most of the cast. I honestly like most of the cast.

Update's like half-done. Might be up soonish.

Right, we were nearly safe with getting a D in Science. A little more work and I won't have to worry as much.

Monday, November 6

Game: You start to run to class to avoid being late, however, you fail to pay attention to where you're going. You run right into Aya, who is also late. She doesn't fall, but all of her books are scattered from her arms.

Would take jerk option but the other one gives you XP.

: I'm sorry, Aya, let me help!

Game: You stoop down to help her gather her papers and books.

: Thank you so much, I-...oh no...

: What?

...You did schoolwork?

: Nope, sorry.

: Argh!

Game: Just then, the bell rings, signifying the start of the period.

: Don't worry about it. We gotta get to class.

: I guess... but I worked so hard on it and the teacher will never take it now.

: That's how life is sometimes.

Hmm, this event kind of blends in with another similar event. Not sure how many times I've seen this.

Tuesday, November 14

: ...

: Naoko, is something wrong?

Huh, no prompt?

: Oh, was it something important?

: Fairly important, yes...

: Can you replace it?

: No, that would be impossible, I'm sure. It was a gift for my mother from somebody we met in India, and it means a lot to her. I just feel so clumsy!

: Ouch.

: I don't think there's much you can do.

: Yeah... I guess not.

: Sorry.

Well, we're pretty much safe for Science now. Any work for that is going to be on securing a D in the next set of exams.

When you hit 60 or 100 in a stat for the first time, you get a point of XP. It's the only real point in getting to 100 in anything. Decay makes it very difficult to stay up there.

So it certainly wouldn't hurt to try out a Science/Lit run next time.

Hey, a critical fail just after hitting 60. That's ironic.

Accidentally spent a week sleeping in. And I didn't even grab the animation for this...

Hmm, a critical fail for Science. Bit of an unlucky streak, eh?

I'd say our Science isn't THAT bad, but we're barely scraping a D. Science too low, you're dumb like Aya, etc.

Tuesday, December 5

: I want to throw an idea at you.

: What is it, Alice?

: Well... I know Kiku is planning on having her Christmas party at her beach house this year, but I was wondering if we could add something.

: Oh?

Happens every cycle, second year only.

: It's kind of like a competition to see who can get someone the most perfect gift, and who ends up buying a real dud!

Last time I participated in one of these, I gave the other guy breadsticks. I mean, he didn't like chocolate and I was on a budget...

: A Secret Santa party does sound fun.

No reason to be a sook. Worst comes to worst, you can always reload. It does mean you have to do like 3 weeks again though.

: That's the spirit!

: This is a wonderful idea.

: Yeah, I already can't wait.

: Let's do it!

: Heehee, you are well prepared...

Game: You choose a slip of paper from Alice's bag.

: Now, make sure you don't tell anyone! Got it? Oh, and no switching!

Bleh. I don't remember what he likes or dislikes. Doesn't really matter for this run, he's pretty much locked against us because of Alice.

: Yes.

: Aww, I'm so excited!

: Yes, this will be interesting...

Shopping will come later. The test happens at the end of the week.

I think we did pretty well. I call up Naoko after this. I swear one of her conversations gives you +1 Fashion. I want to get a recording of that.

Just small talk.

: Oh, not really...

: You don't sound so sure.

: Well, I'm just feeling kind of lonely for some reason...

: Oh...uh... want me to come over?

: Heehee, no, that's okay. I'm just being silly.

In case it hasn't come up yet, the Ogawa's parents are off somewhere, travelling. You can infer it relatively early, but I'm not sure they confirm it.

: Ah, I see...

: I know it's childish, but...

: Maybe you should get a dog?

: I'd love to, but when I'd be sad to leave it if we have to start travelling again...

:smith:

: Oh, I see...

: I'm really glad I have Kazuki... He may be an annoying little brother sometimes, but most of the time, he's the best...

: That's so nice. It's a shame when people don't get along with their siblings.

: I know... I hear Aya complaining about her little siblings are all the time.

: I'm sure she really loves them.

She does find time to spend with them.

: I'm sure she does too, but it'd be nice if she didn't complain all the time.

: True, but there's no changing Aya...

: I should probably start dinner before Kazuki gets home. The sounds of cooking will keep those creepy house-noises away!

: That sounds like a good idea.

Need to check on Satsuko as to how we're going with Naoko. I'm worried our low Fashion's going to slow down that relationship.

Sunday, December 10

: Goon! You look like you're about to go out. What's going on?

: I have to go shopping for this "Secret Santa" thing...

: Oh, how fun! I want to go with you!

: Well-

: Come on, we don't have any time to waste! Er, who are we shopping for, anyway?

: Hiroshi.

: This gift could really make or break you, Goon...

If we go for Alice, Hiroshi isn't a concern. Being on good terms with Hiroshi is good for Aya, Rena and, well, Hiroshi. Kiku hates his guts too and if you're going for Naoko, you'll end up clashing with him anyway.

But we're at the shops now.

Lacy panties...?

Tempting but there's probably XP in the good option. I'm not sure why this event's obsessed with underwear. Hell, I hear it's the best option for Yui and I know it's the best option for Suzu.

Maybe a gift card...

I figured Hiroshi would make fun of our fashion sense if we picked the jacket.

: Is that a gift card, Goon? That's so boring!

: Do you think so?

: Well, I guess it's safe. You can never know what Hiroshi is going to do or think...

Rest of the event happens at the Christmas party. That's about 2 weeks away.

Wednesday, December 13

: Don't be afraid! You really can't go wrong with this kind of thing.

: Hey guys, what are you doing?

: New Year's postcards?

: You've never heard of them? Goon, it's a Japanese tradition!

Oh, these came up in the Tokimeki thread. That thread is still alive if anyone hasn't read it yet. The link is still in the OP. I'd link the images but stealing other people's images without asking is rude.

: Heh...

: Maybe you should fill him in, Rena.

: I see...

: We do that in America too, but we send them for Christmas.

: Is the intention the same?

: That's a nice tradition.

: I agree! What better time to check up on people than the holidays?

: Heehee, and it's a nice surprise to recieve a card from someone you haven't seen in a long time.

: Heh, that's true...

: Oh, I didn't realise how low on supplies I am...

: Yeah, there's not much paper here...

: It looked like a whole lot more in the package...

: How many do you actually NEED to make, Rena?

And here I am, not buying anyone Christmas cards.

: Two hundred cards?!

: You know that many people?

: Well, I don't want to forget anybody...

: Who do you usually send cards to?

: You know, all of the people who are important to me!

: That's a lot of cards...

: I think you're going a little overboard, Rena...

: You think so?

: Well, it's very nice of you, but it's a bit much...

: I'm sure they appreciate it.

: Heh, I think so!

: Yeah, I'm sure they appreciate the sentiment...

: Just don't go working yourself too hard...

: Sure, that sounds great.

: Sure, count me in.

We're actually good at art these days!

: Great! Let's meet in a few days, okay?

: Sure.

: Yay, this is going to be so much fun!

: Yes, I can't wait!

Huh, forgot a screen cap to finish that. Oh well.

We get test results back at the end of the week.

We passed that, we're okay.

Actually, I might even say we're in fine form.

So, I'm going to check in with Satsuko about Naoko and Alice.
  • Naoko - Romantic feelings are becoming stronger. Also her best friend. Looks like we could be good if we took her out on a date, but I'm concerned about being late again...
  • Alice - Really falling for us. Also her best friend. Satsuko says we don't need her help here. :unsmith:
  • Aya - Just for comedy. Our worst relationship. "Aya also really despises you and doesn't want to be your friend at all". I'm cool with that.
Looks like we might still have a shot with Naoko.

To get an ending in Shira Oka with someone, they need be the highest ranked in terms of affection for you. And I don't think we're secure enough to be able to annoy Alice and still get an ending.

We could still try for Naoko, but we'd be trying to lift her Affection above Alice's. It'd be difficult and our stats coincide nicely with Alice's route anyway.

So vote time. Do we go for Alice or Naoko?

Even if you guys vote for Naoko, there's no guarantee that we'll be able to get Naoko's route over Alice's. But I'll give it a shot. If we vote Alice, I'll probably just stop talking to Naoko.

All votes go here.

We should stay the course. Get XP, fix quirks and Alice is growing on me. I guess I sorta sympathize with her. Immigration can be rough.
