Not sure how many people around here still subscribe to BP but Sam Miller's leaving to join ESPN in October which also leaves the fate of Effectively Wild up in the air since I'm guessing ESPN and The Ringer don't play well together. In related news, are there any other daily baseball podcasts that aren't ESPN sponsored that are worth listening to?
Do we think that ESPN would forbid Sam Miller from doing something with an employee of The Ringer even if that something is
1) unaffiliated with The Ringer (Lindbergh does a Ringer MLB podcast on it's own now)
2) self-funded via patreon supporters

Also it's worth noting that if you claim someone on those waivers, the waiving team can be like "okay he's yours" and put you on the hook for the rest of the player's deal and there's nothing you can do about it. Hence a player clearing waivers in August means nobody was willing to risk having that player dumped on them
And of course Puig was claimed quickly because his contract is still quite cheap.

He's struck out 7, 10, 10, & 13 batters in those games, and walked only 1 (in the first game). He will be making his debut at home against the Padres, should be fun!

Kershaw pitching Friday against the Marlins
If he hits the ground running he'll end up with 5 more starts before the season ends. I believe he'd need more than 8 IP on average to qualify for the ERA title. Guessing he won't be allowed to throw 8+ innings on Friday, but if he does manage to qualify I'd bet he wins the Cy Young. He won't get there because they won't let him, but he could get pretty close.

Still super unlikely though
I mean there's an argument beyond narrative considering he'd be at or near the WAR lead in that scenario. That certainly would suggest his quality has been sufficient to make up for his lack of quantity.

Greinke gave up 8 runs and 5 dingers in his return to Dodger Stadium today. I'm becoming more and more convinced he's a brilliant Dodgers double agent. He fleeced a division rival for money, and is now tanking his value and in particular giving up runs to the Dodgers. Before long he will return to the LA, with Arizona eating a bunch of his contract. Then he will miraculously find his groove again.

On the plus side I get to choose my bandwagon playoff team for this year. I'm leaning towards the Rangers. They're my girlfriend's team, they seem fun, they hit baseballs far, Cole Hamels and Lucroy are cool, I've watched them quite a bit because they're on local TV here, and Beltre deserves a world series.

I am however open to other suggestions.
Dodgers are your obvious NL choice if you aren't interested in joining the overloaded Cubs bandwagon. It would be the best revenge for even year bullshit. The only other non-icky NL choice would be Washington, but really don't we all want to see Kershaw finally have the October he's supposed to have, killing that dumb narrative once and for all?
