Votes are in and pretty standard, but before I get called out yes I voted for Matt Stairs and Arthur Rhodes since I need a pretty good reason to not vote for someone once they spend 19+ years in the SHOW. Also let's talk Alan Trammel. Tied 62nd for all time WAR with Ron Santo, Frankie Frisch, and Carlos Beltran. More than Manny Ramirez and Ivan Rodriguez, and Gary Sheffield. 2365 career hits, 4 GG, 3 SS, 6 ASG, 1984 WS MVP (23PA, 16 Total Bases) 7 times received MVP votes including finishing second in MVP 1987 with an 8.2 WAR (winner was George Bell that year with 5.0 WAR) You know what needs to be done here...

Hopefully voting picks up in the last few days because we're not even on pace to break the first year's total right now

The real ballot is starting to look pretty good (outside of a couple bad omissions), though I don't think that Barry/Clemens will get in this year. Next year maybe. But there's still time to cast our own ballot! Which you should!

Why are Bonds and Clemens getting a huge bump now? The big purge of old writers who hadn't covered MLB in ages was prior to last year's ballot, and both of them gained a few percentage points. But now they are up by 20%?

I think a couple voters have come out saying that if Selig is getting inducted into the hall for presiding over Baseball's popularity boom, which was largely fueled by steroids, then there's no reason to hold it against the players any more.

Yeah it's largely about Selig, which is honestly just perfect

People making their ballots public are also a lot less likely to care about the steroid thing and tend to have better ballots generally. But I do think Bonds and Clemens are both pretty much locks to get in eventually, even if it takes some sort of special "steroid era" veterans committee to clean up the mess the BBWAA is making of the 90s and 00s players

Even if you hate him for using steroids, Barry Bonds could see a pitch better than anybody ever has or ever will, and he deserves to be in the Hall for that alone.

Eh, insert Ted Williams argument here. Even if you accept that Bonds is probably #2 at that, which just means he should still be in the hall of fame from the second he retired.

Kevlar v2.0 posted:I voted yes on Trammel and no on Edmonds Trammel is better than Edmonds, absolutely. Edmonds is a good but honestly not super-strong candidate for whom I have an NLCS home run-shaped soft spot. Trammel is an all-time great. I'm curious to see where Rolen ends up next year. I have less of a soft spot for him but I think it's fair to say he's a stronger overall candidate. Interestingly, he's also (potentially) hurt by a comparable but superior player entering eligibility at the same time (Edmonds and Griffey, Rolen and Jones).
