My favourite part of the last lockout was all the people that thought it was a strike.

Lipstick Apathy
The NHLPA rejecting the offer is a good sign that they want to force a renegotiation, not the other way around.

There's gonna be another lockout because the league won't allow the players to play a season in a strike position (and possibly pull an MLBPA by killing a playoffs), but it isn't entirely about the ownership if we have a lockout sooner than later.

double post but i just watched the highlights of the pens stars game

man, i really feel like this is some of crosby's best hockey in his career. really incredible to watch. with how mcdavid has been playing it wouldn't be hard to say there's a new #1 and maybe this is the homer talking, but i really think crosby is clinging onto the title

Well Crosby still has a narrowly higher PPG, so clearly he's still the king.

McDavid/Laine have done a good job so far this season showing that they are ready to replace Crosby/Ovechkin. The next generation is starting and we are all old farts now, remembering the good old days.

Laine is bizarre. His possession stats are pretty terrible, but he's still scoring a gently caress ton of goals.

e: McDavid on the other hand is outrageously good in every way you can quantify a player

Yeah the habs seem to have a tough time against good teams. Who knows what's up with that.

Also 10pm hockey is great if you're in a proper time zone. :coal:

he's an ahl superstar who skates badly and doesn''t drive possession. he has a cannon of a shot, but needs fifty years to get it off.

he can put up some points in the right situation, but he's not very good and fell out of favor with hynes in place of guys with more upside.

The Eric Semborski era may be upon us (if Darling gets hurt today).

Also, TvR is back in the lineup, and I'm not too excited about that given his struggles in the few games he's played this year.

he's had a pretty ugly 9 games in 16-17, very sucky for sure, but his play from the previous 2 seasons was interesting. on a team that had not a lot of dudes pushing the offense, he was worth 4.6 shots per 60 relative to his teammates, 3rd for forwards on the team in that time behind only Jagr and Gomez. over that time, his relative expected goals for/60 and relative scoring chances for/60 are positive but small. on a team who were exceptionally bad at offense, he was a bright spot. he's losing a spot on a bad team that needs offense, when he's shown the ability to have a positive impact on offense. when you see Boucher spending his time on the ice with Jacob Josefson, does it not seem kind of like a waste, one guy who at least has some skill in the offensive zone playing with a center whose offensive presence is nonexistent?

useful middle six forwards who are being poorly deployed is the hotness in the NHL right now. Boucher is gonna slam dunk the funk* in Nashville

he's very limited. his 19 points last year were more a case of the devils having wretched forward depth than anything else. they added up front this year (also got cammalleri back), but have suffered significantly on defense (stop playing ben lovejoy 20 minutes).

jacob josefson is an offensive black hole, ill give you that.

I've grown to deeply detest Trevor Linden.

quote:

Now, look at this year. Tonight we’ll have the youngest defence core in the National Hockey League. Our oldest defenceman will be 26-year-old [Luca] Sbisa and [Philip] Larsen. Gudbranson’s 24. [Ben] Hutton’s 23. [Troy] Stecher and [Nikita] Tryamkin are 22. That’s a new group. We’ve rebuilt that defence.

Trev, that is only because Edler and Tanev (aka the top pairing you had nothing to do with acquiring or developing) are injured right now. Also our defence is god awful and we have no depth. Take away Hutton and Stecher flukely exceeding all expectations and making the NHL straight away, that's barely an AHL level back end.
