McDavid is a dumb child who will get everything he ever says published until he's like 23 or so and gets tired of all the media attention. At that point he'll learn to shut down all aspects of his personality and within... let's say 4 months there will be news articles written about how he's become less vocal because he's "more focused on the game" and he's really emerging as a leader

You know, I've been thinking back on it, and weirdly, this is probably the actual best that the Flyers' D has been since Pronger went down in December of 2011. We've pretty much been floundering and losing every good defensemen slowly since then, and last year was the first time they actually started to get it together. And the crazy thing is it's actually starting to come together despite this lineup still being at least half-staffed by the Land of Misfit Hockey Players: - Streit was probably Homer's last great signing. He's old and dead now but we got value out of basically every year of that contract (including a 52 point season at age 37), as opposed to, say, Vinny - MacDonald is a disaster bad enough to undo all the good will from the Streit signing, but he's at least a body and has had some okay games this year, I guess - Schultz is bad but with some luck he'll never play another game as a Flyer - Gudas was a loving throw-in for the Coburn trade that also got us Konecny's draft pick, and he's been playing like a top 4 defenseman this year, essentially replacing Coburn's spot even without taking the draft picks - Manning has turned into a shockingly competent bottom pairing guy. I never would've guessed that out of the revolving door of AHL defensemen we've been playing over the years he'd be the one to stay, but he's been pretty decent - Del Zotto was also acquired from the trashheap and it's pretty safe to say he revived his career here. His healthy scratchings have been super annoying and I dunno if he stays with the team after this contract is up but it's kind of amazing how well he held the defense together last year - Ghost owns + is good, and I hope his hand isn't broken - And holding it all together by sheer force of will, Ivan Provorov owns loving bones. He leads the entire team in ATOI and is, at 19, unquestionably the team's number 1 defenseman, and easily the team's best defenseman since Kimmo, already. I legit think he could have Calder potential if Werenski wasn't having the rookie D season to end all rookie D seasons We're not as good as this 9 game streak and in about 2 weeks we'll be back to giving up just as many goals as we score but the Flyers have a true number 1 D for the first time in almost half a decade and I'm excited as gently caress

DJExile posted:Properov was dragged down hard by AMac, who seems to be goign to back to the AMac of old, but yeah overall I've been super impressed with him. I really hope Hakstol just bites the bullet and keeps both Del Zotto and Ghost in the lineup to finally push AMac out. It seems like he's finally realized Schultz should not be playing on a pro team, but AMac seems to be seen as the lesser of 2 evils where the other is having too many "offensive defensemen" in the lineup, causing bad turnovers that lead to goals Oh well, 9 games

DJExile posted:Yeah in AMac's defense (gently caress that's weird to say) he actually seemed pretty improved this year from the trainwreck he was in the early going, but it looks like he's regressing hard now. He's really up and down, where he'll have a string of games where it's like "he's actually been pretty decent" followed by "nope that's still good old AMac" for the next week. He really shouldn't be playing in more than an occasional 3rd pairing role but unfortunately it seems like Hakstol isn't really ready to go for a Provorov-Gudas-Ghost-MDZ top 4 yet, and given how many goals we got scored on us early on I can at least see the reasoning behind it, if I don't fully agree e: lol Streit is injured so AMac is completely safe for now http://www.broadstreethockey.com/2016/12/12/13920416/mark-streit-is-injured-too

Fateo McMurray posted:Who's that? Dump and chase is dumb. I just think goalies playing the puck outside their crease like that (or like Miller did, and Lucic rightfully lit him up) shouldn't be immune from contact On the other hand, goalies have reasonably come to expect that they can do so safely because the league makes those kinds of things a penalty, so there is no expectation of contact, meaning Lundqvist is completely unprepared for that hit through no fault of his own Say what you want about how the game "should be" played, the fact remains that this is how it is played and Hank had no reason to expect that hit there and could have been injured far worse because of that. If the league says it's allowed then sure, we can have this argument, but because the league doesn't allow it it better be pretty drat serious about not allowing it
