I'm not going to say it's strictly brilliant, it's Morrison unfiltered and that isn't always a good thing (and it isn't as good as his Animal Man run, which touches on similar themes) but you will never find a more loving insane story put to script.

The first two runs have good single issues (Fanny's boy-witch prostitute childhood, the butler who feeds the Moonchild, 30 Days of Sod All, the one about the random henchman) but the overarching story blows and by the third volume it's boring drug lit. The final issue was pretty cool. Funny enough, I've only read the first two volumes so it looks like I bowed out at the right point. I honestly just couldn't keep track of the characters or their motivations after a point.

Yeah and Volume 3 decides to throw out narrative cohesion to boot. You know how Morrison's work can feel like you're missing two panels between each actual panel? Imagine that but he's also on hallucinogens--and I don't mean "oh did you see Jack Kirby's New God he must have been tripping when he drew that"--I mean "this man was clearly under the influence of substances like LSD and Mushrooms because there is no context to his trail of dreamlike thoughts and I say this aware of my own experiences and thought patterns while using these same substances." The worst part is that I read an annotated guide afterwards and the story underneath isn't even very good. A drat shame too because some of the ideas were in-fact really cool. Also loving  at the idea that the Matrix ripped anything from The Invisibles.
