I remember from Montefiore's book on Stalin that he was into gnawing on frozen fish. He got a taste for it while in exile in Siberia where he became good friends with some natives. After he came to power they kept some fish for him in a freezer. That's also where he had an affair up with a 13-year-old girl, got her pregnant and then skedaddled.

The intro song for the show "man in the high castle" where the nazis won WW2 is about edelweiss. Also the airline I would always fly home from switzerland was called edelweiss. It's a pretty versatile flower.
