I know we have gone over sandwich definitions out the dim sum. But what makes a sport? For example a person who decides to run around the block isn't really doing a sport. That person is just out and about. But what if they start going around all the blocks and start keeping track of how fast they can get around all those blocks? Does that make it a sport or just timed exercise? What happens when they compare their times around a certain route against their friends? Isn't that just now a competitive exercise? A sport needs to have a winner and a loser and otherwise it's just a hobby, a past-time, an exercise, otherwise still a fun thing to do but certainly not a sport.

I think a more important distinction is where the line is that distinguishes an athlete and a player. Arguably by a lot of definitions stuff like poker or ~esportz~ are sports in the sense that they are competitive and have tournaments and people can make a living off of them, but you'll never get me to call some malnourished korean guy an athlete just because he clicks the mouse really fast in the right places. Generally I think there is a lot of leeway in what we call a "sport", but they aren't all the same and I hate how apparently "e-athlete" is a thing people say in a non-joking/mocking way.

Orkin Mang posted:real atheletes move I think golf is where the gray area starts, although every time i see pictures of the president golfing it becomes less gray tbh. They are outside, they are doing physical activities, but you can still be fat (to an extent) and still be good at it because your caddy will just do the hard parts like carrying your clubs for you and running ahead to find your ball.
