Oxygen Not Included is Stardew Valley meets Factorio, which is to say it's a building/survival game in a charming animation style. You start by choosing a team of three "dupes", essentially clones, from random-rolled character sheets that include foibles like "Small Bladder" and "Loud Sleeper". After you pick your team, they are then generated from primordial slime. The dupes spawn into the center (ish) of an asteroid. Their first job is to build toilets. Then they must find food and oxygen before their initial stores run out. The first steps -- excavating, building simple structures, finding water, and researching new technologies -- are self-evident and easy. Then you start having to balance resources. Is it worth using up your precious water supply to generate oxygen? Is generating power with coal worth the cost in generated carbon dioxide? If you fail, everybody dies. They starve to death, they catch an infectious disease, they choke for air in the unforgiving dark. It's fun! In fact, it is fun, and not nearly as depressing as many/most survival games.

ONI is the newest game from Klei Entertainment ("Don't Starve"). It's available only on Steam, on Windows, Mac, and SteamOS. It's been in Steam Early Access since May 2017. The base game is quite stable; I don't see crashes, and I haven't run into many bugs. Every couple of months (there's a ticker in the game itself) there is a content release that adds a new mechanic. ONI already has a lot of content; the two most recent releases added ranching critters and exploring the surface of the asteroid. ONI is fun if you want to play Sims with a side of resource management, or if you want to build the ultimate self-sustaining asteroid arcology. There are active communities on Klei's forums and on Steam; YouTube streamers CrazyFox and Blitz do particularly good jobs of explaining what's up, if video's your thing. ONI runs from random numeric seeds that are visible in the UI, so it's easy to save a particular landscape, start again with new dupes and a new attitude, or share a particularly nice landscape.

ONI is relatively resource-light; I've been running it on a Macbook Pro with no problems. Although it's a survival game, it's a low-stress one; in the early game, it doesn't take long how to figure out how to run a colony that will last awhile. Making it to 100 cycles is a whole nother thing. You can minmax to your heart's content, or you can bumble around slapping another coal generator in the basement and then hastily adding another carbon dioxide skimmer to make up for it.
