Dinosaur Gum

In the expanding office stacks of Cosmiq's lead corporate campus, business was booming. The Plasmiq, which Cosmiq first unveiled through the Wrecking Crew games, had become a wish come true for Cosmiq's stockholders and upper management. Not only had the Plasmiq helped Shines-In-Heaven cross the finish line and retire from the Wrecking Crew games in fame and fortune, it had also been important enough that Shines-In-Heaven had placed the Plasmiq into the Wrecking Crew Crew Cache. The Personal-, Home-, and Business-rated Plasmiq models' sales had been going through the proverbial roof like some kind of ever-expanding hotcakes bakery.

Behind a stately sponsor console desk squared before a sharp-but-economical holoscreen setup, The ex-Wrecker Theo Reticule took a break from tackling an endless sheaf of digital signatures in order to re-review the deetz that had first spashed across his station's scrims a week prior. Not much was known about Cosmiq's latest entrant, Maru Lokka, from the contact papers alone, but Theo had a good feeling about him. He couldn't disagree with Cosmiq's Wrecking Crew training simulators, after all.

>>>>>>>
Maru Lokka, Exo-Wrangler class

Updated Portrait: (thanks!)

Maru Lokka grew up in an unmarked subsistence commune somewhere on Earth until his early teens when he sold himself off to a volatile spacefleet charter on an indentured servantship program. During a routine recon assignment around Ganymede, Maru Lokka was left alone with a developing colony of Horrors that the young man managed to tame and subdue for long enough until the proper Horror-dispersion authorities could arrive. When it was determined that the Horrors were under Maru Lokka's control, he was subdued along with the Horrors and charged with mass destruction of property incl. loss of life for the damages the Horrors rendered to the exo-station's shopping quarter.

Typical of lots of Exo-Wranglers, Maru Lokka was a mildly augmented baseline human with few words he felt necessary to spare other humans.

The Spooky Grasshopper was his preferred model of gear. Once his helmet was sealed and bolted into place, he was still able to communicate with his allies and his pets, even non-verbally, which suited Maru Lokka's needs just fine.
>>>>>>>

Theo took a sip from a chilled glass in one hand and inhaled from the end of a dopestik right after. The canine-faced Wrecker exhaled a cloud of bubbly vapor from his dog-like snout, and muttered.

"Let's go: blind shot. Precognizer, this pick's on you."

Theo toasted the holo-screen, and submitted Cosmiq's offer to the Wrecking Crew Aeropaths on behalf of Maru Lokka:
Pre-Game: Weighted Destination Select (1-2 A, 3-4 B, 5 C, 6 D) [1d6]=3, Luxe Wager [1d12+3]=7+3=10 - 10L to B

The Aeropath stared blankly off into space. There was money in his hand, he was pretty sure. The Wrecker had handed it to him at the start of the conversation. But then when he'd asked where they wanted to go, and it had turned into this entire thing, and given that the wrecker didn't seem to need to breathe to speak, it was literally impossible to get a word in edgewise. There was only the words, which were increasingly starting to make language in general feel like a false construkt. Construct. How had he thought that word with a K? There was no escape. He just had to hope that there would be an end at some point.

"Alright, she's your problem now." The constable slapped the side of the locked drop pod containing Erin. "I assume the eggheads from PR have told you where to drop her off?"
"They've been in contact, yes" the aeropath confirmed. "Though currently she is pretty far down our prio-list, a pecuniary contribution might change that if you catch my power-drift."
"What?" the constable stared slack-jawed.
"A bribe, officer, I'm talking about a bribe." the aeropath clarified. Clearly the most recently decanted batch of constables had not been optimised for intelligence.
"Oh, yeah yeah, they did give me something to give you!" the constable remembered as they rummaged through their coat. "Ah yeah, here we go!" they exclaimed as they handed over a cred chit.

Quickly hitting the deck of the subsea station, she came face-to-face with a half-scavenged rig clanking into frantic motion and eyed it darkly - her expression in a casual ragestate as she ground her teeth and muttered a continuous string of curses.

"Scumsucked bilge leavings. Twetvicular suicideation chow."

She spat in the partially disassembled rig's direction and raised the peashooter they'd handed her, disgust evident in her eyes at this too. For a moment she let go of her sneer - a moment - just to gaze up and utter her case to the Sponsors.

Now gather round folks, and I'll continue spinnin' the yarn of Beaufer Jingco, the meanest son of a gun to ever commit crimes of Unfashionable Anachronism and Public Strumming against the Dubhàn arcoplex. Where we last left our hero, one of those fancy Dubhàn so-and-sos had sprung him out of the Shame Càirn and put him on a one-way trip to the biggest shootout this side of YOLO Corral: Wreckin' Crew. Away from that vile jail and the depredations of its visitors, Ol' Beaufer was now on a pod spirallin' down and down into the depths of Enceladus. Goin' deeper and deeper, colder and colder, so cold that the shield his jailers had branded him with was startin' to itch.

One thing bout Beaufer was that he didn't take kindly to was being shook down, so when the Crew's drone wranglers tried to get some luxe out of him, he just fixed them with one of his famous long, cold stares and strutted away. Beaufer was also a stoic sort, so when his sabotaged pod done collided with the seabase and fire and wreckage rained down on him? Well. It didn't bother him one bit. He pulled himself out, dusted off his chaps, and sauntered away, casual as could be. Only the slow and steady clink of his spurs and the crackling of flame echoing down the seabase's halls to announce his presence.

Now, you're askin', "The man's on fire, why's he takin' his sweet time?" It's cause Beaufer knew the terrible secret of how to get wherever he was goin' perfectly on time, every time.

Exterior shot.
Moodlights flicker, casting stark shadows across the groaning metal frame of an unknown DEEP facility. Research personnel, STUNT-doubles, extras and camera crew all look up in awemazement as a curiously saucer shaped landing pod corkscrew-descends from far, sunlit skies to their home beneath the waves. Suddenly, from everywhere at once, a high pitched whine emerges and slowly coalesces into melody.

The saucer hovers eerily in the rough waters, wholly unaffected by currents. Soon, it's spinning comes to a halt and the seamless oval form emits a silvery metal path from the unknown vessel to the facility itself. The mere mortal structures light-sources go dark, replaced with ultra-bright flashbeamz from orbiting GEN GlamcastRs, marking the entrance, and official Wrecking Crew First Contact with the being whose name is sure to ring out throughout all of the Decree; Celebr E.T.

The baydoor opens with another flash as the surrounding water is boiled away in an expanding bubble of hydrophobic force, revealing to the shocked audiences through EM-hardened camdrones, in between the blinding lights and the silt stirred up by drop-pods elaborate arrival, a blurry and out of focus green or grayish vaguely person shaped entity. Its head is enormous but any facial features, aside from a pair of giant jet-black sunglasses are curiously absent. When it speaks, there is a strange lag to its words, as if they are first filtered through an ancient mechanical translator to an extra just out of frame whom promptly reads it in whatever spooky tone they think best befits the situation and the value of their labourunits.

The drop pod's splashdown was noisy and violent, but the sinking into the ocean's abyssal planes that followed was far less dramatic in Maru Lokka's experience. Aside from the occasional crack and ping of metals being placed under increasingly immense pressure from the waters outside, the only noises that accompanied Maru Lokka's descent 20,000 leagues under the sea were the excited chitterings of his Marine Biocover realizing it had finally returned to the open sea. Maru had been told to give his pets catchy names by his handlers at Cosmiq Pharmaware, so he had decided to give his pair of amphibious companions (a Marine Biocover and an Autofishonoid, respectively) the names 'Flotsam' and 'Jetsam' - this way they could be called 'the Sams' for short.

The drop pod's lowering altitude stopped with the ringing sound of metal clanging against hollow metal below Maru's feet. A light in an overhead panel chimed and turned green right before Maru could feel the pod being lowered further into a chamber below which sealed itself and began draining of water.

Readouts on the door panel gave Maru a countdown until it would be safe to open the gate at long last, and it even played a little jingle when the hatches started to unseal. Maru didn't know what he'd done to deserve such a stress-free deployment from the Wrecking Crew Aeropaths, but he had plenty of other survival needs he had better to concern himself with.

"Touchdown in the hold. Them Aeropaths got the good aim." Maru reported, uneasy to be broadcasting his own voice.

The Exo-Wrangler pulled out his best available combat tools, a fully-juiced horror goad in his right hand and Flotsam clinging to his left wrist like a medieval shield, and he stepped outside the unsealed pod to meet his fate.

Trideohead tested the door of his pod experimentally--unopenable, of course. And flicking his optics through the feeds available to him, it was clear to see why--he was wedged tight inside the airlock.

"Already, we have an Example of the Dichotomies that Dekonstruktionism seeks to interrogate--the Pod, an Ikon of Escape, and Safety. Yet here, we see it turned into a crude Deathtrap--as all Places of Safety must ultimately be. But if the Utopia of Safety is indeed a false Ideal, so too does it follow that the Pod is inherently flawed as a Trap as well. Allow me to demonstrate."

Trideohead went to work with his Spanr, dismantling the internal walls, radiation shielding, and life-support structures of his pod, attaching pipes, valves, and tubes in configurations that were certainly not intended by the designers--after all, the reserve fuel tank probably wasn't meant to flow into the door's hydraulics, much less the oxygen feed.

"And so, I demonstrate the inherent Imperfektion of Shelter--with so little changed, already it is..." Trideo gently tapped a pipe with the Spanr, igniting an explosion that blew the hatch off its fastenings entirely, opening a great dent in the wall through which he clambered out into the station proper.

The flames popped and sizzled against what used to be Beaufer Jingco's flesh as he continued his solemn wander down corridors tighter than Skint Flint's wallet at the cathouse. Up ahead, where the hallways opened up into one of the sea hideouts's fancy domes, our desperaDo caught a gander of the local bandidos and a real ugly sonuvvabitch squarin' off. Now, I know alla you fine people know who Celebr E.T. is, it's right there in the name, so I won't waste the time or legal funds gabbin' about how he's got skin the color of a corpse that's been left out during the summer or how his eyes bulge bigger'n a pissed off bull. The local mutant tribe's hacked security installations caught onto Maru Lokka's heat signature long before the Wrecker could spot another living soul to fight. The mutants knew exactly where the Wreckers should be entering from already, but the extra tracking measures they'd put in place would always help the WCLTD producers do their jobs.

With his shock prod and his biocover ready to ward off any unsavory humanoids or marine monsters, Maru turned the tight hallways and wreckage-strewn corridors until he wandered into the sightlines of a pair of mounted turrets activating their defense batteries.

"What-?!" Maru exclaimed, diving for cover behind a large metal embankment. He grumbled, "I was expecting combat, not automated traps!"

Maru took a deep breath and scanned the room for exits before he spotted it: a clearly-hacked security camera was watching from across the room. Maru would have to risk getting shot by the turrets in order to disable it before he could be noticed.

As he was deliberating, a curious-looking figure emerged into the room at the very edges of the turrets' killzones and Maru yelled at them before they could proceed.

"Take cover - we got turrets!" Maru called out, to Specimen J-17.

The rest got a little blurry in Maru's memory, because he and the other Wrecker were having a bit of trouble forming a plan from behind their walls of metal and wreckage when - all of a sudden - a curious feminine figure with brightly colorful hair and blue skin effortlessly skipped through the room without a care in the world.

The Exo-Wrangler froze briefly at the sight of such a rare specimen.

"Su-sugoi..." Maru uttered in recoil, the word strangely forming in his mouth, unbidden.

"Hey, miss Not so fast- those'r turrets!" Maru warned, snapping out of his reverie.

But then the bizarre young woman was already leaving through the exit Maru had spotted, trailing behind odd wisps of sparkly bubbles in her wake.

"Hmm..." Maru's brain reeled for just a moment. "Now's our chance!"

H̵̺̓ų̸̮̠̓͒́̀̈́ḑ̸̥̲̽͊̍̈́a̴̡̙̤͙̿͒̌̕Erin kept stumbling through the corridors of the building she had somehow gotten stuck in until after about a quarter of an hour she finally ran into the first people since she had woken up. The two were eyeing each other warily until one of them pulled out an honest-to-shareholders shotgun and and emptied its clip into a small critter that had snuck up on them. H̵̺̓ų̸̮̠̓͒́̀̈́ḑ̸̥̲̽͊̍̈́a̴̡̙̤͙̿͒̌̕Erin flinched back both from the unexpected weapons fire itself as well as the loudness of the shot. The critter taken care of, the first of the two began to speak:
